PalmPay Launches NightGuard to Protect Night Transfers With Extra Verification.

PalmPay Launches NightGuard to Protect Night Transfers With Extra Verification. Published 28 Sep 2026 at 12:47 PM * PalmPay's NightGuard lets customers require extra verification for transfers during selected hours between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. * The feature aims to help protect accounts if phones are lost or compromised, without blocking overnight transfers. * NightGuard is available through PalmPay's upgraded Security Centre as the company also promotes customer awareness of digital-payment risks Pascal Oparada is a journalist with Legit.ng, covering technology, energy, stocks, investment, and the economy for over a decade. PalmPay has introduced NightGuard, a security feature that allows customers to require additional verification for transfers during selected night-time hours, giving users more control over when extra checks apply to their accounts. The fintech company announced the rollout in a statement on Saturday, saying the feature is available through its upgraded Security Centre. Customers can set a protection window within the hours of 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. Any transfer attempted during their chosen period will require an additional verification step before it can be completed. The feature targets a concern for digital-payment users: the risk of unauthorised transfers when a phone is lost or compromised, particularly during periods when account activity may escape immediate attention. How PalmPay's NightGuard works. NightGuard allows users to decide when they want an extra layer of verification on transfers, rather than applying the additional check to every transfer throughout the day. Once a customer selects a protection period within the available overnight window, transfer attempts during those hours become subject to the extra security requirement, Punch reports. The feature therefore centres on customer-selected hours. PalmPay described it as a way to give users greater control over account security, especially when they may be less likely to notice unusual activity. For customers, the distinction is that NightGuard introduces a verification requirement during a defined period. It does not amount to a blanket suspension of night transfers: transactions within the selected window require the extra check before completion. Why PalmPay is focusing on night transfers. Explaining the initiative, Femi Hanson, Head of PalmPay Nigeria Marketing, said a compromised or missing phone could present particular risks overnight. "While fraud can happen at any time, there are situations where a compromised or lost phone can create additional risks at night," Hanson said. "Giving customers more control over when additional verification is required can provide another layer of protection." His comments underline the feature's purpose as an additional security measure. PalmPay's announcement presents NightGuard as a tool for strengthening protection during selected hours, rather than suggesting that fraud occurs only at night. The rollout comes as digital payments become increasingly embedded in everyday transactions in Nigeria. Alongside that convenience, users continue to face threats ranging from scams and impersonation to unauthorised account access. Security tools and customer awareness. NightGuard forms part of the tools offered through PalmPay's upgraded Security Centre, which brings the new verification option into the company's wider account-security offering. PalmPay also said customer education remains an important component of its efforts to improve digital-payment security. The announcement combines two priorities: giving customers a practical way to apply extra checks during selected hours and maintaining awareness of the risks that accompany everyday use of digital financial services. CBN unveils tough new rules for PalmPay and others. Legit.ng earlier reported that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has introduced a set of sweeping new regulations targeting major digital payment companies, including OPay, Moniepoint, PalmPay, Paystack, and Flutterwave, as part of a broader effort to tighten oversight and deepen financial inclusion across the country. The reforms, released between March and June 2026, focused on market concentration, operational ring-fencing, ownership disclosure, financial holding structures, and anti-money PalmPay Launches NightGuard to Protect Night Transfers With Extra Verification (AML) compliance.

Remita users can now manage every bank account in one app.

Remita users can now manage every bank account in one app. Remita has launched a super fintech app that lets users manage multiple bank accounts, send money across Africa, compare loans, invest, pay bills and track finances with AI. Remita is no longer just a payments platform. The Nigerian fintech company has launched a new super app that lets users manage multiple bank accounts, send money across Africa, compare loans, invest, pay bills and use AI to track their finances, all from one place. The announcement came via Technext, which broke the story on social media. The move marks a significant expansion for a company long known primarily as a payment gateway used by businesses and government agencies across Nigeria. The new app consolidates financial services that previously required users to juggle multiple platforms. Instead of switching between a banking app, an investment platform, a loan marketplace and a bill payment service, Remita users can now handle all of that within a single interface. The cross-border transfer feature is particularly notable. Remita is positioning the app to serve users who need to move money between African countries - a pain point that has driven demand for alternatives to traditional remittance channels, which often come with high fees and slow settlement times. The AI-powered finance tracking adds another layer. Users can get automated insights into their spending patterns and financial health without manually categorising transactions or building spreadsheets. Why Remita is making this move now. Remita has spent years building trust as the payment backbone for Nigeria's Treasury Single Account, which routes government revenue through a centralised system. That institutional credibility gives the company a strong foundation to expand into consumer-facing services. The broader African fintech landscape has been shifting toward super apps - single platforms that bundle payments, lending, investing and lifestyle services. Competitors like Opay, PalmPay and Moniepoint have all expanded beyond basic transfers, and Remita's move places it directly in that race. The loan comparison feature addresses a real gap in the market. Nigerian borrowers often struggle to evaluate interest rates and terms across the many digital lenders operating in the country. A comparison tool inside a trusted app could help users avoid predatory terms. What this means for consumers and the market. For everyday users, the most immediate win is convenience. Managing multiple bank accounts from one dashboard removes the friction of logging into separate apps, remembering different passwords and manually tracking balances. For the fintech sector, Remita's entry into the super app space raises the competitive stakes. Companies that currently dominate consumer payments and lending will now face pressure from a player with deep institutional relationships and a track record in processing large-scale transactions. The investment feature also signals ambition. By offering investment options alongside everyday banking tools, Remita is targeting users who want to grow their money but have not found an accessible entry point. The road ahead. Remita has not yet disclosed pricing details, availability timelines across different African markets, or the full list of partner banks and investment providers. Those specifics will determine how quickly the app gains traction. Watch for regulatory approvals in each country where the cross-border transfer feature will operate. Compliance across multiple African jurisdictions is complex, and execution speed will be a key test of Remita's super app ambitions. The next few months will reveal whether users actually migrate their financial lives onto this new platform. Help others discover this story

Nigeria: PalmPay steps up security drive amid rising fraud concerns.

Nigeria: PalmPay steps up security drive amid rising fraud concerns. PalmPay is strengthening its customer security measures with a new campaign focused on fraud awareness, account protection and giving users greater control over their digital financial transactions. Compare Credit Cards The fintech, which operates under a Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) licence, with eligible customer deposits insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), launched its "PalmPay Dey For You" campaign as security and reliability remain key concerns in Nigeria's expanding digital financial services market. The initiative is designed to increase customers' awareness of security tools available on the PalmPay platform while reinforcing the company's broader efforts to protect users and their funds. PalmPay targets stronger customer trust. Speaking on the initiative, Managing Director of PalmPay Nigeria, Chika Nwosu, said trust remains fundamental to the relationship between financial institutions and their customers. Discover more Consult Corporate Lawyers Compare Credit Cards "Trust is fundamental to banking. Customers need to know that the institution they rely on is regulated, secure, dependable, and available when they need it," Nwosu said. He said the campaign would reinforce PalmPay's commitment to customer protection while enabling users to take greater control of their digital banking experience. At the centre of the campaign is PalmPay's Security Centre, which brings together tools that allow customers to strengthen account protection and monitor potential security risks. Security tools give users greater control. One of the features available to customers is Location Guard, which allows users to designate up to six trusted locations. The feature provides an additional layer of protection by helping identify account activity originating from locations outside those designated by the customer. PalmPay has also introduced NightGuard, which provides additional protection during periods selected by users. Other security tools within the application allow customers to review their account protection and take steps to strengthen their security settings. The measures are intended to give customers more control over how and when their accounts can be accessed, particularly as digital financial services become increasingly embedded in everyday transactions. Compare Credit Cards PalmPay expands account and dispute protection. The fintech is also addressing situations where customers lose access to their mobile phones or payment cards. Discover more Download Interactive Maps Customers can lock their PalmPay accounts by dialling 86112#, while cards can be locked through 8617*5#. PalmPay has also expanded its dispute-management process through a dedicated Dispute Page, enabling customers to submit and track transaction-related complaints directly through the application. The development is aimed at making it easier for users to report disputed transactions and follow the resolution process without relying solely on external customer-support channels. Fraud awareness becomes part of security strategy. Beyond its technology tools, PalmPay said the campaign will combine security features with educational content designed to improve customers' understanding of fraud risks. The initiative will include frequently asked questions, customer forums and other communications explaining practical steps users can take to protect their accounts and financial information. Nwosu said PalmPay wants customers to understand the security tools available to them and use the features confidently, positioning the fintech as a financial partner for customers' everyday needs. Security by design gains importance in digital finance. The campaign comes as digital financial services become increasingly integrated into Nigerians' daily activities, including money transfers, bill payments, savings and other financial transactions. As fintech platforms expand their customer bases and transaction volumes, protecting users against fraud and other security threats has become increasingly important to maintaining confidence in digital finance. PalmPay said its approach is based on "security by design", with customer protection incorporated into the user experience rather than being treated solely as a response to security incidents. The company said it would continue focusing on helping users understand both the safeguards operating behind the scenes and the security measures they can activate themselves. The approach places customer awareness alongside technology and platform-level controls as key components of fraud prevention and digital financial security.
