  • A Bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education from an accredited university.
  • A valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements.
  • Extensive content knowledge and operational knowledge of all aspects of a high school choral program.
  • Knowledge of state and University Interscholastic League policies pertaining to choir.
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures, interpret data, manage budgets and personnel, and use relevant technology.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage the choral music program for the assigned school, providing curricular and extracurricular choral activities.
  • Develop an annual calendar of student performance opportunities and events, including concerts and required regional and state competitions and evaluations.
  • Maintain student eligibility records for University Interscholastic League and extracurricular activities.
  • Prepare students for University Interscholastic League Solo and Ensemble and Concert and Sight-Reading Evaluations.
  • Prepare students for and actively participate in the Texas Music Education Association All-Region and All-State Choir audition process.
  • Manage personnel associated with the choral program, including accompanists, private instructors, clinicians, and guest musicians.
  • Provide opportunities for student participation in extracurricular events.
  • Arrange transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
  • Follow district policies regarding booster organizations where applicable.
  • Participate in campus musicals and collaborative events as determined at the campus level.
  • Collaborate with directors in the same feeder pattern and across the district.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for choral rehearsals and provide written lesson plans as required.
  • Prepare lessons that accommodate individual student differences.
  • Present subject matter according to Texas Education Agency guidelines, board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that address students’ learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments of student achievement.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Maintain educational records demonstrating student mastery and growth.
  • Apply and enforce student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise students during on- and off-campus activities.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Manage program funds within the program budget allotment.
  • Compile budgets and cost estimates based on documented program needs.
  • Coordinate fundraising activities and manage proceeds.
  • Maintain a current inventory of fixed assets within the department.
  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  • Present information accurately and clearly and conduct conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers as needed.
  • Work with campus and district colleagues to develop a positive school climate.
  • Participate in staff development, professional learning communities, faculty meetings, and staff committees as required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of innovative and effective curriculum practices related to the content area.
  • Participate in official state organizations including the Texas Music Education Association and University Interscholastic League.
  • Maintain required professional development reports, records, and documents.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior.
