Xero launches first financial management app for Google Gemini, serving 5 million users

Xero, the global small business platform, has launched a connected app for Google Gemini, becoming the first financial management platform to do so. Customers can pull live Xero data into Gemini chats to check cash flow, track profit and loss, and manage invoices and bills without switching apps. The app runs on Xero's agentic platform, JAX. Gemini can also turn data into charts, such as net profit and loss graphs and aged receivables. Any action that changes financial data, such as issuing an invoice, needs user confirmation first. Xero says shared data is used only for the user's session and not to train Gemini models. Xero serves 5 million small businesses and advisors across more than 180 countries. A task feature for scheduled workflows is coming soon on eligible plans.

BrightHR announces Xero Payroll integration to combat wage theft and streamline compliance.

BrightHR announces Xero Payroll integration to combat wage theft and streamline compliance. BrightHR Australia | Published 8 Oct 2026 Direct payroll automation eliminates human error, protects SMEs from severe wage theft penalties and ensures real-time alignment with complex modern award rates BrightHR Australia, the premier B2B software provider for workforce management and compliance, has announced a major technical enhancement with the launch of its direct integration with Xero Payroll. The direct API connection is designed to eliminate manual data entry, streamline complex wage calculations and protect small-to-medium enterprise (SME) owners from severe legal liabilities associated with Australian wage theft legislation. Maintaining payroll accuracy across Australia's intricate modern award system is one of the most significant operational challenges facing resource-constrained SME business owners. Manual re-entry of timesheet data, misinterpreting penalty rates and managing timecard discrepancies regularly lead to accidental payroll underpayments. Under strict Fair Work Ombudsman regulations and recent federal legislation criminalising intentional wage theft, even inadvertent administrative errors can trigger devastating statutory penalties, back-pay audits, and reputational damage. Mollie Eckersley, Associate Director of Operations, ANZ, BrightHR Australia, said: "Processing payroll manually or relying on disjointed spreadsheets is a major vulnerability for small businesses. Australian modern awards are extraordinarily complex, with penalty rates, overtime and allowances changing based on specific shift patterns. When managers are forced to manually transfer timesheets into payroll software, human error is almost inevitable. "Direct integration between BrightHR and Xero removes that human touchpoint entirely, ensuring every calculated hour translates instantly and accurately into correct pay," continued Mollie Eckersley. Eliminating human error The direct synchronisation between BrightHR and Xero Payroll connects workforce scheduling directly to the payroll engine. By automating the data flow from digital clock-in tools directly to payroll calculations, it guarantees end-to-end operational visibility. Key capabilities include: * Direct cloud syncing: Automatic transfer of verified digital timesheets, rosters, and leave approvals straight into Xero Payroll, eliminating CSV exports and manual re-keying. * Automated award rate calculation: Real-time application of award rates, allowances, overtime and penalty rates ensures payroll compliance across all employee classifications. * Wage theft prevention and audit trails: Robust digital record-keeping that logs clock-in/clock-out locations, manager approvals, and pay adjustments, satisfying mandatory statutory seven-year record retention mandates. * Streamlined employee self-service: Instant synchronisation with the BrightHR mobile app, allowing employees to view rosters, log hours, and check leave balances transparently. Protecting business reputation Beyond administrative time savings, automated payroll alignment plays a crucial role in safeguarding business reputation. At a time when regulatory scrutiny is at an all-time high, proactive compliance technology provides small business owners with the peace of mind required to focus on growth. "Compliance is no longer just a back-office admin task; it is a fundamental pillar of risk management and employee trust. With strict enforcement around wage compliance, business owners cannot afford to take risks with manual systems. Integrating BrightHR with Xero gives SMEs enterprise-grade compliance accuracy, protecting employers from unexpected liabilities while ensuring staff are always paid correctly," said Mollie Eckersley.

Muse + QuickBooks vs Ergora for small-business finance.

Muse + QuickBooks vs Ergora for small-business finance. Choosing the right setup for small-business financial visibility comes down to two simple practicalities: your primary accounting software and where your business operates. If your ledger lives in Intuit and you operate in North America, pairing Muse QuickBooks gives you a personal agent that can work with your QuickBooks data. Conversely, if you run your accounts on Xero across the UK, Australia, or New Zealand and need your numbers surfaced alongside your broader operational team, Ergora provides an integrated specialist workspace. How Muse with QuickBooks approaches financial visibility. Meta announced Muse for Small Business on 29 September 2026, adding connectors to its personal AI agent. For finance, the relevant connectors are Intuit QuickBooks and Stripe. Muse is not an accounting system; it works with the accounts you already have. It connects to your QuickBooks account, and Meta's example is 'reviewing financial performance'. Stripe is also a listed connector. What Muse with QuickBooks has going for it: * A QuickBooks connector: Meta lists Intuit QuickBooks among its connectors, so the agent works with your existing account. * Multi-tool conversational context: Alongside QuickBooks, Muse connects to software like Stripe, Shopify, Slack, and Asana, so you can ask about several tools in one place. * Flexible entry points: The agent operates across mobile apps on iOS and Android, on the web, and inside WhatsApp. * Low barrier to entry: Meta says it is free with usage limits, with a subscription plan for more usage. Two limits apply. Meta describes Muse as available in the US and Canada. And Meta describes a personal AI agent; its announcement does not describe shared team seats, so a team should check how it would work for several people. How Ergora handles small-business finance today. Ergora works differently. Rather than acting as a general-purpose chat interface, it provides 12 specialist AI packs for small teams in one workspace. Within the dedicated Ergora Finance workspace, your finance view sits alongside your sales pipeline, marketing and legal work. To be clear: Ergora does not connect to QuickBooks today. QuickBooks and FreeAgent are on the integrations roadmap. Today, Ergora connects directly to Xero via secure sign-in for organisations registered in the United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Once connected, you see your numbers in Ergora without exports or double entry: * Unified invoice and expense tracking: It shows an outstanding and overdue invoice list and your expenses. * Stripe revenue visibility: It shows Stripe revenue beside your accounting data. * Statutory tax deadline calendars: It features built-in compliance calendars covering HMRC deadlines (Self Assessment, VAT, Corporation Tax, and PAYE) and IRS dates (quarterly estimated taxes and annual filings). There are in-app reminders ahead of each date, with links out to Xero, HMRC and the IRS. Finance is one of 12 packs, so your numbers sit in the same workspace as the other specialists. See the full list of features for the rest. The pricing for finance starts from $158 a month ($99 seat plus $59 pack), with 50% off the first month and a 30-day money-back guarantee. Comparing Muse QuickBooks workflows and Ergora. For Muse vs Ergora finance, the decision rests on your accounting software, where you are based, and whether you want a personal assistant or a shared company workspace. | Requirement | Muse with QuickBooks | Ergora | | Reads QuickBooks | Yes, via Meta's connector | No, on the roadmap | | Reads Xero | Not listed by Meta | Yes (UK, Australia, New Zealand) | | Stripe revenue views | Yes, via Meta's connector | Yes, beside Xero data | | Tax deadline calendars (UK and US) | Not listed by Meta | Built-in calendars with in-app reminders | | Sits beside marketing, sales, PR and legal tools | Through the apps you connect | In the same workspace | | Team seats | Not described in Meta's announcement | Yes, shared workspace | | Availability | US and Canada, as Meta describes it | UK and international | | How you pay | Free with usage limits; subscription plan for more | From $158 a month ($99 seat plus $59 pack) | To understand how these platforms compare across operational disciplines beyond finance, read its broader breakdown of Muse for Small Business versus Ergora workspaces. Selecting the right AI setup for your business ledger. Neither is right for every business. Match your location, your accounting software and how many people need to see the numbers. Choose Muse with QuickBooks if: * You are in the US or Canada: Meta describes Muse as available there. * Your books are in QuickBooks: Muse can read your QuickBooks account today, and Ergora cannot yet. * You want a personal assistant layer: If you mainly want one agent across your own apps, the free tier is an easy place to start. Choose Ergora if: * Your accounts run on Xero: You run a business in the UK, Australia or New Zealand and want your Xero data in the same workspace, without exports. * You work as a team: You want several people to see finance next to the rest of the business. * You want finance unified with your operating stack: You want overdue invoices, Stripe revenue and tax deadlines next to your sales deals, PR and marketing work. The integrations page lists what Ergora connects to. The reality of modern bookkeeping and compliance. Owners looking at AI for small business accounting often ask whether an assistant can handle compliance. Ergora does not calculate your taxes or file returns, and Meta does not describe Muse doing either. AI bookkeeping for small business is still limited by what the software knows and what the rules require. These tools help you see overdue invoices, track revenue and stay ahead of tax dates. They do not replace an accountant or a registered tax adviser. For ideas on what to automate in an accounting workflow, see its guide to AI for accounting practices. Disclaimer: This article provides general operational information for businesses and does not constitute financial, legal, or tax advice. Always consult a qualified professional accountant for filing obligations and regulatory compliance. Which setup should you pick? If your books are in QuickBooks and you are in the US or Canada, Muse is worth trying on its free tier. If your business runs on Xero in the UK, Australia or New Zealand, or you want several people to see your invoices, Stripe revenue and tax deadlines next to your sales and marketing work, Ergora is the better fit. Frequently asked questions. Does Muse work with QuickBooks? Yes. Meta lists Intuit QuickBooks among the connectors for Muse for Small Business. Canstar's 2026 Most Satisfied Customers Award for Small Business Accounting Software isn't decided by a panel - it's voted for by the small business owners actually running things on Xero. For the eighth year running, you've named Xero Limited your top choice. It's a vote of confidence Xero Limited don't take for granted, from the people who know best what it takes to run a business in Aotearoa New Zealand - you, and the advisors that back you.
