Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience with proficiency in Python.
  • Comfort with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, Keras, or JAX.
  • Strong experience with computer vision and multimodal large language models.
  • Experience training neural networks that moved into production.
Responsibilities
  • Use and improve multimodal large language models to achieve new customer functionality and optimize cloud and edge deployments.
  • Train and design more accurate deep learning models for complex artificial intelligence applications on low-cost, low-power hardware.
  • Improve the data pipeline, model architectures, and training software, developing novel approaches where relevant literature is insufficient.
  • Use the Kubernetes cluster to deploy PyTorch and TensorFlow training jobs; use Snowflake and Dataflow to build datasets; use Streamlit to prototype demos; and use graphics processing units on Google Cloud Platform for model training and data auto-labeling.

  • Experience with deep reinforcement learning.

Plumerai provides licensable AI software for embedded devices like cameras and IoT, enabling manufacturers to add AI capabilities via a software update. Its product uses a two-layer approach: on-device Tiny AI runs fast, low-power detection and recognition (e.g., people, vehicles, faces) with local data processing, while more complex analysis is handled by cloud-based Vision LLMs for features like AI Video Search and AI Captions. This hybrid setup lowers cloud costs and keeps processing fast and private, differentiating itself by offering a full-stack, field-updatable solution rather than only cloud services and by emphasizing on-device processing to reduce false alarms and power use. The company aims to scale from smart home security to enterprise security, smart retail, elder care, and other IoT markets, partnering with manufacturers such as the Chamberlain Group to grow its edge AI and video analytics business.

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • September 2025 brought an $8.7 million Series A from Partech and OTB Ventures.
  • Plumerai launched Vision LLM-powered features in September 2025, expanding beyond basic detection.
  • Its July 2026 product pages and TI partnership show active commercialization across multiple device categories.

What critics are saying

  • Camera OEMs and TI can bundle comparable edge AI, compressing Plumerai's software licensing margins.
  • Face recognition faces GDPR and biometric scrutiny in Europe, threatening enterprise and consumer rollouts.
  • If Chamberlain or other OEMs internalize models, Plumerai loses distribution and existentially shrinks.

What makes Plumerai unique

  • Plumerai runs Tiny AI directly on cameras, then escalates complex tasks to cloud Vision LLMs.
  • Its models target $1 microcontrollers and TI AM62x chips, widening deployment across cheap hardware.
  • Face identification, stranger detection, and people tracking work inside devices, preserving privacy and latency.
