Requirements
- Must be at least 17 years old.
- Must have a minimum of six months of related work experience.
- Must be available to work morning, afternoon, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
- Must demonstrate swimming proficiency in all types of water conditions.
Responsibilities
- Guard the indoor and outdoor recreational and lap pools.
- Monitor the pool deck during pool operation hours.
- Check water quality and maintain a safe environment.
- Greet, acknowledge, and interact with members.
- Supervise swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensure that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
- Warn swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforce pool regulations and water safety policies.
- Rescue swimmers in danger of drowning and administer first aid.
- Ensure swimmers are aware of potentially dangerous swim areas and activities.
- Act quickly and professionally in emergency situations.
- Keep the pool area clean and orderly to ensure member safety.
- Instruct and assist classes in the fundamentals of swimming as needed.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training sessions.
- Never turn your back on the pool.
- Never leave the swimming pool unattended.
- Evaluate conditions for safety and initiate the aquatics emergency action plan as required.
- Inspect pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
- Assist in cleaning the pool and hot tub.
- Assist with water chemical tests and record them in the pool log book.
- Fill out incident reports as needed.
Desired Qualifications
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certificate or equivalent.
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent.
- American Red Cross Standard First Aid or equivalent.
- Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
