Requirements
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English.
  • The employee must be able to walk for up to 7 hours, sit for up to 1 hour at a time, and stand for up to 1½ hours for 30 minutes at a time.
  • The employee must be able to handle, twist or turn, lift, carry, push, and pull loads weighing 1–50 pounds, and occasionally stoop, bend, climb, and reach above shoulder level.
  • The employee must be able to hear normal conversation and have general, far, and peripheral vision.
Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise Food and Nutrition Services activities and the work of food servers, dish machine operators, food handlers, cashiers, caterers, and clinical aides according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assign personnel so that all essential tray line, cafeteria, patient service, and sanitation positions are covered with properly trained personnel.
  • Cover shorthanded areas using the least expensive method within established guidelines.
  • Document late and excused or unexcused absences and performance problems.
  • Monitor the performance of Food and Nutrition Services staff and correct problems that arise.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of department policies and procedures and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
  • Complete the pre-service checklist, ensuring that serving equipment functions properly, food temperatures comply with department standards, and each station is adequately stocked for the meal service.
  • Ensure that special orders and special diet items are prepared, present, properly portioned, and labeled, and approve substitutions when necessary.
  • Monitor the entire meal service to ensure food is served properly, attractively, in order, and delivered on time; return unacceptable food to production.
  • Check tray line and cafeteria stations to ensure they are cleaned and sanitized before employees take breaks and before they leave.
  • Ensure dishes and utensils are cleaned, sanitized, and properly restocked before the next meal service deadline.
  • Work every other weekend and holiday.
Desired Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a food service environment is preferred but not required.
