Dairy Management Inc. (DMI) gathers support from America’s dairy farmers and dairy importers to boost the sales and demand for dairy products. It does this by running programs through its affiliated groups—National Dairy Council, American Dairy Association, the U.S. Dairy Export Council, and the Innovation Center for U.S. Dairy—to fund research, education, and marketing initiatives that promote dairy and build confidence in dairy foods, farms, and businesses. Its work centers on increasing consumer demand for dairy by studying trends, sharing information, and developing innovative approaches to marketing and export. Unlike many groups that operate solo, DMI coordinates industry-wide efforts across national councils and export promotion to align farmers, processors, and marketers toward common goals. The primary objective is to grow demand for dairy products while maintaining trust in the dairy supply chain.

  • Dairy Does More launched March 2026, refreshing DMI’s consumer-growth playbook.
  • Domino’s partnership continued May 2026, reinforcing cheese demand through foodservice innovation.
  • The 2026 Sustainability Alliance meeting expanded to 260 leaders, strengthening DMI’s convening power.

What critics are saying

  • Barbara O’Brien’s 2026 CEO search signals leadership churn during a strategic reset.
  • Plant-based milk still commands roughly 20-25% of U.S. dairy-and-alternatives value in 2026.
  • If checkoff politics fracture, DMI loses funding legitimacy and its national influence collapses.
