Requirements
  • A minimum Bachelor's Degree in Education or a post-bachelor's qualification in Education from an accredited college or university, or qualification under the Arizona Department of Education's Highly Qualified requirements.
  • A State of Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsements for the area of instruction, or successful completion of the appropriate Arizona Educator Proficiency Assessments or National Evaluation Series proficiency examinations.
  • SL/ELL or Structured English Immersion certification or endorsement is required.
  • Experience working with English Language Learner populations is required.
  • An active Arizona Department of Public Safety IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card is required, or the ability to obtain one upon employment.
  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and education that provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
Responsibilities
  • Provide targeted and integrated English language instruction aligned with state and Office of English Language Acquisition Services-approved frameworks.
  • Develop students' cognitive capacity, respect for learning, self-esteem, motivation, civic responsibility, and leadership.
  • Develop ELL teaching and instructional materials and strategies.
  • Implement school policies.
  • Communicate with parents about students' academic issues.
  • Determine instructional techniques, strategies, and methods, and adapt curriculum and learning styles to meet and assess student needs.
  • Maintain open communication with parents and guardians about academic and discipline issues through phone calls, notes, progress reports, and other media.
  • Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements.
  • Develop activities, resources, strategies, and methods for varied teaching, including lesson plans and substitute teaching plans aligned with learning objectives and school guides.
  • Develop, analyze, adjust, and implement individualized learning plans based on student assessments, selecting appropriate assessment tools and levels.
  • Assess and evaluate student performance, behavior, progress, grades, progress reports, and comprehension of learning objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected student and staff information after employment or enrollment ends.
  • Support student well-being as a fundamental value in decision-making.
  • Contribute to the professional growth of self and colleagues by sharing and planning curriculum, staying current with educational trends, and maintaining current teaching certificates.
  • Work collaboratively to achieve the overall purposes of the school program.
  • Maintain a classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.
  • Travel occasionally for site visits, meetings, trainings, or conferences, potentially including overnight stays.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in ESL/ELL Instruction.
  • Experience working with Canvas or similar Learning Management Systems.
