Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Training as an Emergency Medical Technician or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is acceptable.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
  • Successful completion of an electrocardiogram interpretation course or similar training within a job role, such as Emergency Medical Technician training, is required.
  • Proven work experience as a Monitor Technician or in a position requiring frequent electrocardiogram interpretations, such as Emergency Medical Technician or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician work, is required.
  • The ability to monitor electrocardiogram rhythms and recognize abnormalities is required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
  • Basic computer skills are required.
  • The ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, is required.
  • The ability to perform under stressful situations, prioritize, multitask, and follow through is required.
  • The ability to stand or work for most of a 12-hour shift and bend or lift 25 to 50 pounds while assisting patients is required.
  • The role may involve exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious diseases, and periods of high stress.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor patients’ heart rhythms using specialized equipment.
  • Continuously observe the cardiac monitor screen and interpret the data received.
  • Report significant changes or abnormalities to nurses, doctors, or other members of the healthcare team.
Desired Qualifications
  • An associate degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred but not required.
  • A Certified Cardiographic Technician credential is preferred.
  • Knowledge of working within an electronic health record is desired.
  • Additional languages are preferred.
