- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Training as an Emergency Medical Technician or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician is acceptable.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Successful completion of an electrocardiogram interpretation course or similar training within a job role, such as Emergency Medical Technician training, is required.
- Proven work experience as a Monitor Technician or in a position requiring frequent electrocardiogram interpretations, such as Emergency Medical Technician or Advanced Emergency Medical Technician work, is required.
- The ability to monitor electrocardiogram rhythms and recognize abnormalities is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Basic computer skills are required.
- The ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing, is required.
- The ability to perform under stressful situations, prioritize, multitask, and follow through is required.
- The ability to stand or work for most of a 12-hour shift and bend or lift 25 to 50 pounds while assisting patients is required.
- The role may involve exposure to blood and body fluids, contagious diseases, and periods of high stress.
- Monitor patients’ heart rhythms using specialized equipment.
- Continuously observe the cardiac monitor screen and interpret the data received.
- Report significant changes or abnormalities to nurses, doctors, or other members of the healthcare team.
- An associate degree in a healthcare-related field is preferred but not required.
- A Certified Cardiographic Technician credential is preferred.
- Knowledge of working within an electronic health record is desired.
- Additional languages are preferred.
