Requirements
  • A master's degree in a human services field and 3 or more years of equivalent job experience.
  • A master's degree in a human services field with a license such as LSW, LCSW, or LPC and 2 or more years of equivalent job experience.
  • A bachelor's degree and 6 or more years of equivalent job experience.
  • At least 2 years of direct clinical mental health or crisis intervention experience.
  • Ability to understand and maintain knowledge of mental health regulations and procedures concerning patient rights and voluntary or involuntary admission status.
  • Competence in patient assessment, treatment range, growth and development, and age-appropriate communication.
  • Competence in responding to agitation or violent behavior using verbal de-escalation and, when required, physical restraint.
  • Competence in caring for agitated or violent patients who may require seclusion or restraints.
  • Ability to support utilization management and the pre-certification process for intakes and consults.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical and sensory requirements, including sitting, standing, walking, writing, typing, chart handling, lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and related movements and vision and hearing functions.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive crisis intervention and coordinate admissions or referrals for patients and families presenting for psychiatric symptom assessment.
  • Conduct intake assessments for patients with mental health needs in the Emergency Department or Walk-In Center and make referral recommendations to the appropriate level of care.
  • Interact with physicians, advanced practitioners, care teams, and behavioral health staff to facilitate referral decisions and placement.
  • Coordinate with behavioral health team members on patient flow and appropriate placement issues.
  • Serve as a liaison for other hospital or network sites and support requests from patient care areas regarding patients with mental health needs.
  • Serve as a preceptor during the orientation of new crisis services staff when needed.
  • Respond as a member of the Control Team to agitation or violent behavior requiring verbal de-escalation or physical restraint.
  • Support utilization management and pre-certification for all intakes and consults.
  • Assist with updating referral and resource information and with requested data collection projects.
  • Monitor the therapeutic environment as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
