Requirements
  • Successful experience delivering human services, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience sufficient to complete the outlined duties.
  • Knowledge and experience with social casework objectives, principles, and methods.
  • Knowledge of Child Protective Services and Adult Protective Services.
  • Experience working with homeless populations and barriers faced by unhoused people.
  • Extensive experience with strength-based case management and trauma-informed care models.
  • Experience working with young adults, minorities, persons with disabilities, people affected by substance abuse, foster youth, and low-income families from diverse social and ethnic backgrounds who have a history of homelessness or disability.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional integrity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw conclusions, and present information to management or public groups.
  • Strong problem-solving and time-management skills.
  • Ability to represent the organization’s interests and build collaborative relationships with families, individuals, staff, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to react under pressure, use good judgment in ambiguous situations, and remain flexible and adaptable.
  • Understanding of public welfare laws, principles of community organization, and effective use of public and private community resources.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective individual and group relationships with participant families, employees, and community partners.
  • Experience in report writing and advanced file management techniques.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite and database systems.
  • Ability to meet safety requirements, including not presenting a direct threat to self, others, or property.
  • Ability to pass required background clearances in accordance with agency, county, state, and federal standards.
  • CPR and First Aid certification is required within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion and maintenance of all required training and health clearances.

Responsibilities
  • Assess program participants and evaluate their medical, physical, emotional, psychological, and legal needs.
  • Develop individualized service plans with short- and long-term housing-focused goals.
  • Review case plans weekly and adjust goals when appropriate.
  • Facilitate groups and individual sessions covering financial planning, education, budgeting, credit and bank-account management, life skills, employment, housing, nutrition and wellness, art, and culture.
  • Develop individualized budgets and help participants monitor savings and expenditures.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive community-resource lists and make appropriate referrals.
  • Document participant contacts and prepare screenings, assessments, service plans, evaluations, and reports.
  • Coordinate incoming and outgoing participant referrals with community agencies.
  • Provide crisis intervention, referrals, and collaborative consultations with service providers.
  • Maintain and update participant files to comply with reporting-agency requirements.
  • Conduct monthly participant-file reviews as a peer review committee member.
  • Coordinate transportation needs according to established policies and procedures.
  • Assist participants with mediation, critical thinking, and problem solving.
  • Support communication among Youth Advocates, Employment Specialists, and Housing Specialists.
  • Identify viable permanent housing options and support participants through lease signing, inspections, and related housing processes.
  • Help obtain vital paperwork for household members needed for employment, school enrollment, housing, income, and other documentation.
  • Attend and conduct meetings and training as directed.
  • Maintain positive relationships with the public, funding agencies, participants, and staff.
  • Ensure compliance with VOA policies, CARF standards, and safety and security regulations.
  • Perform other assigned duties.
