Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing and registered and licensed to practice in the applicable state.
  • At least 12 months of nursing experience plus 6 months of specialized clinical nursing experience with dialysis patients in a chronic or acute setting.
  • Certification in CPR or successful completion of a CPR certification course.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day guidance, support, and direction to direct patient-care staff, including informal feedback and formal input for annual performance evaluations.
  • Participate in staffing and appropriate hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions, and recommend or initiate disciplinary action as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance with company and facility procedures, policies, and state and federal regulations.
  • Approve or disapprove time or personnel schedule changes in the Facility Administrator's absence.
  • Participate in patient care plan meetings.
  • Maintain current knowledge of dialysis practices and techniques through scheduled in-service training.
  • Train and orient staff as necessary.
  • Observe and guide direct patient-care staff on proper technique and adherence to facility policies and procedures.
  • Promote compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration programs to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
  • Maintain safe, efficient, and effective shift operations.
  • Conduct staff meetings with the Facility Administrator to communicate changes in patient-care needs and operations.
  • Meet with the Facility Administrator regarding personnel and patient-care status, issues, and information.
  • Supervise documentation of patient information.
  • Coordinate Charge Nurse duties with Staff Registered Nurses serving in relief charge capacity.
  • Assess daily patient-care needs and develop and distribute patient-care assignments.
  • Assume primary responsibility during emergency situations.
  • Assess patient needs, respond to dialysis treatments, communicate concerns to the rounding physician, and implement directed changes in patient care or treatment.
  • Monitor and supervise patient-care activity during dialysis and assist as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the direct patient-care team on patient-care decisions.
  • Monitor patients' conditions for problems and potential dialysis-related complications.
  • Administer medications according to physician orders.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource for staff members.
  • Supervise and participate in completing short- and long-term care plans.
  • Admit new patients according to facility procedures.
  • Educate patients and families about end-stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medication.
  • Supervise the safe and effective use of equipment involved in direct patient care.
  • Operate dialysis-related and emergency equipment safely and efficiently when needed.
  • Perform required testing and verification and complete start-up and shutdown checklists according to the Technical Services Manual.
  • Complete the Nurse's Technical Training Program and Water Quality Facility training.
  • Assist with special projects and other duties assigned by the Facility Administrator.
  • Assist with interviewing potential direct patient-care staff.
  • Promote efficient use of medical supplies.
  • Attend and participate in monthly Quality Assurance meetings.
