About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, or equivalent evidence of strong technical judgment and independent ownership.
  • Significant experience designing, building, and operating backend systems in production.
  • Strong production experience with TypeScript, Python, or another modern language used to build web applications and backend services, with the ability to become productive quickly in a TypeScript-first codebase.
  • Experience designing application programming interfaces, relational data models, and data processing workflows that preserve data quality and behave reliably under real-world conditions.
  • Experience building and maintaining frontend features and user interfaces for production web applications using React or a similar framework.
  • Strong software design fundamentals, including system boundaries, failure modes, testing strategies, maintainability, and performance tradeoffs.
  • Experience deploying and operating software in a cloud environment such as Google Cloud Platform or Amazon Web Services.
  • Demonstrated judgment in making pragmatic tradeoffs among delivery speed, reliability, maintainability, and the long-term health of the codebase.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a small, cross-functional team.
Responsibilities
  • Design, build, and operate backend services, application programming interfaces, data models, and data processing workflows that power Remedy’s core product capabilities.
  • Build and maintain frontend features and user interfaces that bring those capabilities to users, delivering complete product workflows across the stack.
  • Own product and engineering problems from discovery through design, implementation, deployment, and iteration.
  • Collaborate with scientific, product, and operational teammates to understand real-world workflows, identify underlying needs, and develop effective solutions.
  • Investigate complex and evolving problems, identify requirements, risks, and edge cases, and translate them into clear technical approaches.
  • Contribute well-reasoned proposals to technical design discussions, evaluate alternatives, and collaborate with the team to refine solutions.
  • Partner with the Software Engineering Lead to shape and evolve system architecture as requirements change.
  • Build systems that transform documents, laboratory results, field data, and operational data into structured and reliable outputs.
  • Integrate applied artificial intelligence capabilities such as document extraction, retrieval, and report generation into reliable product features.
  • Write clear, tested, and maintainable code, and conduct thoughtful code reviews that improve code quality and share technical context across the team.
  • Balance delivery speed with reliability, maintainability, and the long-term health of the codebase.
  • Help improve engineering practices around testing, deployment, observability, documentation, and system reliability.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience at an early-stage startup or in another environment requiring broad ownership and rapid execution.
  • Experience building products involving large language models, retrieval-augmented generation, document extraction, or other applied artificial intelligence capabilities.
  • Experience with document-heavy or data-intensive systems, including object storage, search, indexing, extract, transform, load, or ingestion pipelines.
  • Experience using Python for scientific computing, numerical modeling, data processing, or integrating analytical models into production systems.
  • Experience with scientific, environmental, laboratory, industrial, or regulated workflows involving large datasets.
  • Experience with geographic information systems, geospatial data, PostGIS, or spatial modeling.
  • Familiarity with continuous integration and continuous delivery, infrastructure as code, cloud observability, and production monitoring.

About the company

Remedy Scientific cleans polluted land using chemistry, AI, and automation to decontaminate sites. It designs scalable remediation systems that combine hardware, software, and chemicals to sense contamination and treat pollutants with precision. On-site sensors monitor pollutant levels and automated robots perform remediation under software plans, adapting as conditions change. What believers are saying

  • The company’s website, updated July 29, 2026, confirms active commercialization efforts.
  • Axios reported end-of-2025 plans for a Bay Area pilot and government contract.
  • Job postings in July 2026 show hiring for backend software powering core workflows.

What critics are saying

  • Remedy Scientific has only $11 million raised since April 2025, limiting field execution.
  • A July 2026 engineering hire signals product buildout, not proven customer revenue.
  • If first pilot sites fail, remediation contractors and regulators will reject the platform.

What makes Remedy Scientific unique

  • Remedy Scientific launched in 2025 with automated land decontamination, chemistry, and AI.
  • Its platform targets PFAS cleanup, a technically difficult niche with entrenched manual incumbents.
  • West Oakland roots and mobile sensing-cleaning units create a productized remediation model.
