Monumental Sports donation helps strengthen DMV communities. Capital One Arena furniture finds new purpose through Community Forklift's reuse and community giving programs. As Capital One Arena undergoes renovation, one thing isn't changing: Monumental Sports & Entertainment's commitment to giving back. Rather than sending hundreds of furniture items and appliances to the landfill during ongoing renovations, Monumental partnered with Community Forklift to ensure these materials could continue serving the communities across the DMV. It's a powerful example of how reuse can create ripple effects far beyond a single building project. This spring, Community Forklift received the donation that included 39 stainless steel refrigerators, 145 tables and chairs, and hundreds of barstools from Capital One Arena suites. While the arena prepares for its next chapter, these items are already beginning new lives in schools, nonprofits, and homes throughout the Washington region. "Monumental is doing a phenomenal thing by deciding to put a little bit of extra effort into supporting the local community," said Tom Patzkowski, Community Forklift's Director of Donations. "It's fantastic that while the arena is being refurbished, these materials continue helping the people who live in our community." One donation. Many new beginnings. Community Forklift's mission keeps useful materials in circulation and out of the landfill, and every donation creates new opportunities to strengthen its community. Some of the refrigerators from Monumental's donation have already been distributed through its Community Building Blocks (CBB) program to nonprofit organizations throughout Maryland and Washington, DC. These appliances will help school food pantries safely store fresh food, support nutrition programs, and expand access to meals for students and families. Furniture has also found new homes with educational organizations creating welcoming spaces for students, staff, and visitors. From charter schools preparing new classrooms to elementary schools furnishing gathering areas, these donated materials are helping organizations direct more of their limited budgets toward the people they serve. Other donated items will continue their journey through Community Forklift's reuse warehouse, where affordable prices make quality furniture and appliances accessible to homeowners, renters, artists, contractors, and small businesses throughout the region. One donation can support schools, strengthen nonprofits, provide affordable options for shoppers, assist families in need, and reduce waste, all at the same time. A partnership that multiplies impact. Through this donation from the Capital One Arena renovation, Monumental has demonstrated that thoughtful deconstruction and reuse can be an important part of any major renovation project. A Monumental Sports & Entertainment spokesperson shared the organization's motivation: "We're getting ready for our second round of renovations this summer. We're donating all the suite furniture to nonprofits. It's very important for Monumental to give back. We're excited that they can take the furniture and repurpose it." That commitment aligns perfectly with Community Forklift's mission of finding a new home for reusable materials in its community, and Community Forklift LLC is incredibly grateful to Monumental Sports & Entertainment for choosing the community over disposal and for helping demonstrate what's possible when organizations invest in reuse. Every donation tells a story, and this one will continue for years to come through classrooms, food pantries, nonprofit spaces, homes, and neighborhoods across its region. You can help create the net success story. Every donation has the potential to create a ripple effect throughout its community. Whether it's a single appliance, furniture from a renovation, or surplus building materials, your donation can help support local nonprofits, provide free essentials to neighbors in need through its community giving programs, and keep quality materials in circulation throughout its community. If your business, organization, or household has reusable building materials, furniture, appliances, or architectural salvage to donate, Community Forklift LLC'd love to hear from you. Monumental Sports & Entertainment builds a new pathway to group hospitality at Capital One Arena with The Blueprint Studios. * News * March 25, 2026 New concept inspired by original Washington, D.C. blueprints offers more flexible, group-oriented premium experiences at Capital One Arena WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 25, 2026) - As part of the ongoing Capital One Arena transformation, Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) today announced The Blueprint Studios, a new concept that creates a flexible pathway into arena hospitality for guests looking to gather, host and connect around live sports and entertainment. The new spaces will debut ahead of the 2027-28 season and offer opportunities for multi-year membership. The Blueprint Studios are inspired by both the vision behind the Capital One Arena transformation and the city of Washington itself, rooted in L'Enfant's original blueprint for the District that designated the plot of land where the arena sits as a gathering place at a global intersection. The concept reflects this time-honored communal spirit, providing an entry point for exclusive ownership and guests looking to build their own shared experiences at Capital One Arena. With spaces offering seating designed for groups of eight or more, The Blueprint Studios create a right-sized option for groups and businesses who want to enjoy live sports and entertainment together, without the scale or commitment of a traditional private suite. The Blueprint Studios will be located on the arena's second level and offer elevated amenities including all-inclusive food and beverage, in-seat service and access to a private lounge that creates natural socializing among like-minded members. "Capital One Arena is a community convening space in the heart of the nation's capital that brings guests from all over the world together," said Jim Van Stone, President of Business Operations and Chief Commercial Officer at MSE. "The Blueprint Studios reflect that spirit, making it easier than ever to gather your circle and build life-long memories over live events. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion, networking with colleagues, or hosting small business meetings, the spaces are designed to meet your group's distinct needs - allowing you to focus on the moments that matter." Building on Washington, D.C.'s architectural legacy, The Blueprint Studios will reflect the city's tradition of intentional, enduring spaces built to bring people together. From Union Station's sweeping arches to the Capitol's neoclassical construction, guests will instantly recognize design details inspired by the city's most iconic landmarks in a refined, welcoming, and intentionally designed social environment. In addition to small group private spaces and a distinctly D.C. design, The Blueprint Studios will include: - All-inclusive food and beverage with a rotating menu of elevated arena fan favorites and featured items for every event - A Blueprint Studios social club with dedicated bar, dining, and restrooms for additional gathering space close to the action - Access to The Halo, a multi-level hospitality space offering curated dining, service, and retail for select ticketholders - In-seat service and dedicated concierge team - One arena parking pass per 8 guests. Where Washington Comes Together The Blueprint Studios are the latest debut in MSE's $800+ million transformation of Capital One Arena in partnership with The District. The redesigned arena will create a new entertainment and social hub in the heart of the city as the cornerstone of broader efforts to revitalize the downtown area. Throughout the transformation, fans across every level will see meaningful upgrades in every part of the arena experience including: Entry: More access points, highlighted by a new arrival hall - The Grand Pavilion - with upgraded ticketing and security technology to ease entry. Travel: Wider concourses and double the number of elevators/escalators, including express options designated for each floor. Gathering: Multiple new social spaces on every floor for convenient places to connect close to the action. Concessions: Increased concessions locations, several more kitchens, and a new food hall on the 4th floor concourse Amenities: Six team stores, a new flagship team store, and increased concourse restrooms Action: A brand-new scoreboard and large Visibowl(TM) concourse displays showing the event in real-time Culture: Works by local artists will turn every level into a living civic landmark with the District Arts Collection. Capital One Arena project gains $215m debt facility. Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) has secured a new $215m (£159.3m/€183.8m) debt facility to back the ongoing redevelopment of Capital One Arena. MSE, parent company of the venue, along with the NBA's Washington Wizards and NHL's Washington Capitals, told the Washington Business Journal that the new financing had long been planned. "The financing adds further strength to our balance sheet with participation from trusted partners, underscoring strong progress made to date with a clear path to building a best-in-class venue and fan experience," an MSE spokesperson said. The new debt facility comes on top of the $515m MSE secured from the District of Columbia as part of the 2024 deal that locked in the long-term futures of the Wizards and Capitals at Capital One Arena. In March 2024, MSE reached an agreement with the District to carry out major renovation work at Capital One Arena, after plans were dropped for an entertainment district in Virginia that would have housed a new arena for the Wizards and Capitals. The $1bn Capital One Arena revamp is now in the second year of what is intended to be a multi-phase, three-year project. Construction formally began in December 2024 after unanimous approval on the development and finance agreements from the D.C. Council. Six phases of construction are aimed to be delivered in time for the 2027-28 NBA and NHL seasons. In October, MSE unveiled a multi-year transformation strategy for Capital One Arena designed to set a new benchmark for premium engagement across the industry.
Qatari sovereign wealth fund QIA and Arctos Partners are acquiring passive minority stakes in Monumental Sports Entertainment from Laurene Powell Jobs at an enterprise value of $7.2 billion. Monumental owns the Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals. Powell Jobs, who founded Emerson Collective, purchased approximately 20% of Monumental in 2017 and was once the group's largest shareholder outside of Ted Leonsis. The exact equity amounts each group is acquiring and payment distribution remain undisclosed. Neither QIA nor Arctos will receive board seats or governance rights in the transaction. Powell Jobs had previously sold portions of her holdings to another Monumental limited partner. The deal has been presented to NHL and NBA owners.
