Atomica is a MEMS-focused manufacturing partner that designs, develops, and fabricates MEMS, photonics, biochips, and sensors. It operates as a MEMS foundry offering end-to-end services from design and photolithography to wafer bonding and testing, enabling customers to bring MEMS, photonic circuits, sensors, or biochips to life efficiently and cost-effectively. The company’s process combines 3D lithography with micro-scale optical integration to produce sophisticated devices, such as an ultra-fast MEMS-based chip for sorting live biological cells created with Miltenyi Biotec. Atomica’s competitive edge comes from its collaborative engineering approach, specialization in 3D lithography, and a recently upgraded 8-inch wafer facility that doubles device yield per wafer, improving manufacturing economics. Its goal is to expand high-quality MEMS and related devices for photonics, biomedical, and sensor markets by serving as a dependable, full-service manufacturing partner.

What believers are saying

  • $30M Series C from Cerium, Novo Tellus, St. Cloud expands biochip-sensor-photonics capacity.
  • MEMS relays outperform traditional relays in EVs, IoT, defense with superior efficiency.
  • AI inspection and metrology boost cleanroom efficiency for rapid scalable production.

What critics are saying

  • TSMC's 2025 InFO-MEMS undercuts photonics-sensors with lower-cost integrated scale.
  • MEMSIC grabs 25% more US biomedical share via 30% cheaper state-subsidized biochips.
  • Analog Devices lawsuit halts Atomica's automotive inertial sensor shipments.

What makes Atomica unique

  • Largest US MEMS foundry operates 130,000 sq ft Santa Barbara campus with 30,000 sq ft class 100 cleanroom.
  • Upgraded to 8-inch wafers doubles device production per wafer using 3D lithography.
  • Advanced simulation bridges concept to fabrication for performance-yield tradeoffs.
