Requirements
  • Successfully complete the State of Florida Criminal History Background Check and meet the Association’s background-screening policies.
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Refrain from diagnosing injuries, offering medical advice, or dispensing or endorsing commercial health products, including nutritional supplements, vitamins, performance-enhancing substances, and pain relievers.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold current CPR, First Aid, and Automated External Defibrillator certifications.
  • Hold an appropriate fitness certification.
  • Complete the YMCA’s Blood Borne Pathogens training annually.
  • Complete the YMCA’s Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Class annually.
  • Have one year or more of experience in fitness.
  • Complete required Level 2 background screening through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
  • Adhere to the drug-, alcohol-, and smoke-free workplace policy.
  • Complete staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols.
Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, effective, and physically appropriate group exercise classes under the direction of the Executive, Wellness, or Program Director.
  • Follow the format and description of the assigned class type.
  • Be ready to start and finish classes on time and schedule adequate setup and takedown time.
  • Ensure classes are safe and comply with industry standards and guidelines.
  • Provide suitable music for a family setting.
  • Become familiar with class participants, including their names, health concerns, and physical limitations.
  • Maintain constant supervision of participants during class.
  • Report maintenance concerns to the Executive, Wellness, or Program Director immediately.
  • Ensure participants wear appropriate footwear.
  • Store all equipment correctly after the shift.
  • Arrange a substitute when unable to work a scheduled shift and communicate the substitute to the supervisor promptly.
  • Attend regularly scheduled mandatory staff meetings.
  • Use the time clock, monitor the timesheet, and report corrections to the supervisor promptly.
  • Uphold staff safety requirements and cleaning protocols throughout the day.
  • Participate in YMCA-sponsored special events and activities when possible.
  • Perform team assignments in the annual Partner with Youth campaign.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Complete additional training classes recommended by the supervisor.
