S&P Global ($133.5B market cap) expands into commodity indices and onchain risk data

S&P Global's index unit, S&P Dow Jones Indices, has teamed up with Quantix Commodities to launch co-branded commodity indices. The benchmarks use S&P Global's index governance framework and aim to give investors differentiated exposure. Separately, Chainlink has expanded its work with S&P Global Ratings to make S&P vault risk assessments available directly on blockchain networks. The US data provider, which has a market cap of about $133.5 billion, is extending its benchmarks and ratings data into commodities and digital markets. One thing to watch is whether it reports revenue from these new products in 2027.

S&P Global's Q3 test: AI API growth and $11T refinancing wave face slower renewals

S&P Global reports third-quarter results on October 27, its first full quarter as a four-division company after completing the Mobility spin-off on July 1. Investors will watch whether its AI push turns into revenue. Last quarter, revenue reached $4.146B. Ratings grew 17% and Indices 20%, but Market Intelligence rose only 6%. Larger customers are delaying renewals while they negotiate AI use and IP protection. Customers on LLM-ready APIs topped 500, up more than 70% from the prior quarter. Management expects about $11 trillion of rated debt to need refinancing over the next 4.5 years, which should support Ratings. Full-year adjusted EPS guidance is $17.50 to $17.75. The company raised its 2026 buyback target to more than $7 billion.
