Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Current licensure as required by the state board; in West Virginia, a license as a Dietitian through the West Virginia Board of Licensed Dietitians.
  • At least one year of clinical experience.
  • Ability to assist in managing staff, including evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
  • Ability to teach classes and provide patient education; ability to read and write in the medical record and survey patient units.
  • Ability to stay current with professional nutrition literature and create and interpret staff schedules.
  • Ability to use the EPIC computer system, Vision room service program, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as paging, beeper, and phone systems.
  • Ability to delegate appropriate tasks, motivate staff, proofread documents, manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and alternate between tasks quickly.
  • Ability to speak in front of groups and communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
Responsibilities
  • Assist with developing policies and procedures for managing patient-service meal components.
  • Assist with quality assurance monitoring and reporting for departmental performance improvement meetings, participate in quality process improvements, and endorse evidence-based practices.
  • Serve as a nutrition resource to hospital staff and provide direction regarding nutrition needs for specific patient populations.
  • Collaborate with food service, medical, nursing, and allied health staff to maintain interdepartmental communication.
  • Support recruitment, hiring, training, evaluation, and competency activities for personnel; guide and mentor dietetic students, peers, and support personnel.
  • Participate in professional growth and development for self and the clinical team.
  • Assist with developing, revising, and implementing departmental and interdepartmental policies, procedures, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Plan and coordinate nutrition service goals, objectives, and new services.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating daily workflow and provide feedback to leadership for performance evaluations and disciplinary actions.
  • Participate in community-focused education programs and external speaking events.
  • Maintain knowledge of healthcare, food service, clinical nutrition, The Joint Commission standards, and healthcare informatics.
  • Provide expertise and support for menu planning and maintenance of nutrition-related computer software.
  • Deliver and oversee quality nutrition care for a diverse patient population; assess and document nutritional status and care plans when staff are absent.
  • Assume the responsibilities of the clinical nutrition supervisor or manager in that person's absence.
  • Provide nutrition education and counseling based on patient and family learning needs and abilities.
  • Provide outpatient nutrition support across ambulatory services, serve as the primary contact for dietitian and support needs, coordinate and participate in student and intern rotations, and support ambulatory departmental and organizational goals.
Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or a related field.
  • Membership in the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
  • Five years of experience in clinical nutrition.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical leadership role.
