What believers are saying

  • Koin launched an April 2026 Pix parcelado campaign for its 13th anniversary.
  • The Koin app was updated May 2026, showing active consumer product investment.
  • Koin raised $7.3 million through Itaú FIDC in 2024 for tourism lending expansion.

What critics are saying

  • EBANX and Pagaleve launched Pix 4x in July 2026, compressing Koin’s BNPL margins.
  • Brazil’s October 2026 VASP deadline raises compliance costs and blocks crypto-adjacent expansion.
  • If Pix installment lending commoditizes, Koin becomes a feature, not a standalone company.

What makes Koin unique

  • Koin pairs Pix parcelado with instant credit decisions and merchant fraud prevention.
  • Despegar acquired Koin in August 2020, anchoring travel-linked distribution and financing.
  • Koin’s app offers up to 12 installments without cards, targeting Brazil’s underbanked shoppers.
