Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent and either a minimum of twelve hours of college credit from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of one year of active duty in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces with honorable discharge documentation.
  • Fluency in American English and proficiency in American English grammar and spelling.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work beyond normal office hours and on weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
  • Ability to function under adverse and stressful conditions.
  • A valid driver's license and good driving record.
  • A Texas Commission on Law Enforcement license and compliance with applicable minimum licensing standards.
  • Ability to obtain a passing Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Licensee Medical Condition Declaration (L-2).
  • Ability to obtain a passing Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Licensee Psychological and Emotional Health Declaration (L-3).
  • Successful completion of a background investigation, psychological examination, and required testing; polygraph and drug testing may also be required.
  • Applicants must not have disqualifying felony, Class A misdemeanor, family violence, or specified Class B misdemeanor convictions or unresolved criminal arrests.
Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle to prevent, discover, and deter crime, enforce criminal law, direct traffic, and enforce motor vehicle operation and parking regulations.
  • Respond to calls and complaints involving violations of criminal law.
  • Write detailed reports on police-related activities, interview complainants, and forward reports to the Criminal Investigations Division or other departments as needed.
  • Secure crime scenes, conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations, gather evidence, obtain witness statements, apprehend suspects, make arrests, and transport offenders.
  • Assist faculty, staff, and students with general information, inquiries, or other needs.
  • Testify as a witness in court in connection with arrests, juvenile hearings, depositions, and similar proceedings.
  • Serve arrest warrants, search warrants, and other papers as required.
  • Remain informed about persons and places suspected of illegal activity or potential problems within an assigned area.
  • Determine appropriate actions in accordance with rules, regulations, policies, and federal, state, and local laws.
  • Recognize and report safety hazards.
  • Develop and maintain required skills and certificates and attend continuing education courses or law-enforcement training.
  • Use and properly care for firearms and related police emergency equipment, wear and effectively use department-issued equipment, maintain the provided uniform and equipment, and present a professional appearance.
  • Operate a motor vehicle safely while using a police radio and other emergency equipment; operate and qualify with department-issued firearms using both hands and each hand individually; and operate office equipment, camera systems, and field equipment.
  • Retain and retrieve information provided through bulletins, verbal reports, briefings, and training.
  • Project a professional image on and off duty as required by department policy and procedure.
Desired Qualifications
  • Three years of experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer, or a minimum of thirty hours of college credit from an accredited college or university, or a minimum of three years of active duty in any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces with honorable discharge documentation.
