Mark Lanier discusses Roblox litigation on Fox. The Lanier Law Firm is representing the state of Arkansas in claims against the online companies Roblox Corp. and Discord Inc., alleging that lax moderation, lack of effective age verification and indifference have made the digital platforms a "two-stage predatory pipeline" for child predators. The complaint filed in California state court claims Roblox has failed to properly separate adult from child content or keep adults from contacting children on the platform. According to the filing, child predators are able to migrate vulnerable children to Discord, where they use its unmonitored private messaging system to solicit photographs or meetings. Less than a week after this Roblox lawsuit was filed, Roblox announced new safety measures the company claims will protect children on the platform. "I think they are a good first step, but I think that Roblox is clearly in trouble over their past behavior and I'm worried this doesn't go far enough," said the firm's Mark Lanier in an interview on Fox Business News. Roblox rolls out new age-verification safety features for children. Published: June 17, 2026 By India McCarty Roblox is rolling out new age-verification safety measures as they continue to face scrutiny for not properly protecting young users. "Roblox Kids and Roblox Select launch globally today, aligning users' access to games and features with their age," a press release from the popular gaming site announced. "Users are automatically placed into the appropriate account for their age." Roblox is asking users to either verify their age with their government-issued ID or through AI-powered face-scanning technology. Eliza Jacobs, Roblox's vice president of safety product policy, told NBC that the company sees these new measures as "an investment in the long-term vision of Roblox." "We're optimistic that it will continue to get better and better. But as compared to picking your birthday on a drop-down list, it's much more accurate," she explained. "Ticking a box to say you're 13 or older, it's not enough anymore." Jacobs continued, "Certainly no system is perfect, and we know that sometimes it will get it wrong. We want to have a balance between being able to correct something that's wrong, but also not letting people abuse the system." "We have a long-term vision of safety and civility on the platform that we're building towards that we believe in," she finished. "It's OK if some people are not always happy about that." These new safety features come amid complaints from many parents who claim Roblox's platform does not properly protect children who use the gaming site. Several states have brought lawsuits against Roblox as well, accusing the platform of exploiting its young users. Nebraska Attorney General Mike Hilgers filed a suit that alleged sexual predators have "repeatedly used Roblox to groom and eventually abduct and sexually assault children." "For years, Roblox has known that it has a pedophile problem," the suit continued. "It built an extremely popular interactive gaming and social media platform by doing what other social media companies would not: marketing to and accepting pre-teenage users. As a result, Roblox became, in its own words, the '#1 gaming site for kids and teens.'" Roblox has settled similar suits with Alabama and West Virginia, with Roblox Chief Safety Officer Matt Kaufman stressing their desire to "work together" with state governments to protect children. "We have no finish line when it comes to safety, and we are grateful for the Attorney General's advocacy in pioneering this path forward," he added. While Roblox still has work to do to continue protecting its younger users, these new measures are an encouraging step forward for the platform.
Roblox exec says ticking a box for age verification is 'not enough anymore' Monday, 15 June 2026 Roblox's vice president of safety product policy, Eliza Jacobs, told NBC News that Roblox is "optimistic" that its new facial age estimation tech will "continue to get better," saying, "Ticking a box to say you're 13 or older, it's not enough anymore." NBC invited a group of kids to try out Roblox's new video selfie age check process, but they weren't able to get around it with a fake mustache. Jacobs claims Roblox's facial age estimates can typically land "within 1.4 years of a child's exact age." Roblox announced plans in April to begin using its video selfie age estimation tech to sort players into age brackets. Users under 16 and under 9 are now sorted into Roblox Select and Kids accounts, respectively, with restricted access to chat and certain types of games. Players can also use a government ID to verify their age, or parents can manually set their child's age group. In April, Roblox reported a drop in daily users after rolling out age checks. However, Jacobs stood by the platform's age verification measures, saying, "We have a long-term vision of safety and civility on the platform that we're building towards that we believe in."
