Requirements
  • Graduated from an accredited program for Licensed Practical Nurse or Licensed Vocational Nurse and currently registered in the state of the community.
  • Must obtain valid continuing education credits as required by the state of the community.
  • Complete training in Alzheimer’s and dementia care with a focus on Validation Therapy.
  • Have a minimum of one year of nursing experience in a health care facility.
  • Have experience in emergency care and first aid.
  • Communicate effectively with management, associates, residents, family members, and outside contacts.
  • Have the ability to make independent decisions.
  • Be able to seek out new methods and incorporate them into existing practices when applicable.
  • Must disclose any medication that might impair the ability to perform the job safely or competently.
  • Meet the Florida Level 2 background screening requirement through the Florida Care Provider Background Screening Clearinghouse.
Responsibilities
  • Provide direct and individual nursing care to assigned residents according to nursing standards and under the supervision of the Director of Resident Care.
  • Maintain compliance with state and federal regulations and applicable HRA standards.
  • Ensure the quality and safe delivery of health services to residents.
  • Implement plans of care formulated by physicians and the Director of Resident Care.
  • Provide accurate and timely documentation of care.
  • Assess and provide residents and family caregivers with information relevant to diagnoses or plans of care.
  • Administer medication according to physician orders, document administration on the medication administration record, observe for adverse reactions, and notify the physician as needed.
  • Assemble resident charts and records and verify that required forms are complete and accurate.
  • Prepare incident and accident reports as needed, notify physicians and families after incidents or accidents according to policy, and document appropriately.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment using safe work methods and procedures in accordance with clinical standards.
  • Assist residents in learning appropriate self-care activities.
  • Organize and monitor associates and material resources needed to meet the needs of assigned residents.
  • Recognize emergencies and life-threatening situations and initiate appropriate action.
  • Maintain confidentiality and protect residents’ rights regarding personal information.
  • Attend required community meetings and participate in Life Enrichment activities when able.
  • Complete required courses in accordance with HRA University.
  • Perform required duties on a prompt, regular, and predictable basis.
  • Learn how to report a missing person using the Safe Return program or an equivalent process.
  • Help maintain a safe and secure environment for community residents.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a long-term care community and/or geriatric nursing facility.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Outlook software.
  • Passion for working with and around senior citizens.
