About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years in defense capture, business development, or commercial/go-to-market roles, with a track record of personally closing multi-million-dollar deals.
  • Ability to land and expand within Department of War program offices, primes, and neo-primes.
  • Deep working knowledge of how Department of War programs are funded and contracted, including the distinction between a prime and a neo-prime.
  • Background selling physical hardware into industrial or defense environments, such as robotics, automation, weapon systems, or sensors.
  • Direct production exposure in manufacturing, sustainment, depot operations, or weapon system production.
  • Understanding of the differences between selling software and selling systems that must work on a factory floor.
  • Ability to obtain a Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Carry a revenue target against defense accounts and own forecast accuracy and pipeline hygiene.
  • Run the full capture lifecycle from identification to close, converting pilots into programs of record and single cells into full production lines.
  • Set deal structures for pilots, deployments, and contract manufacturing relationships.
  • Build account plans for the Department of War, defense primes, and neo-primes.
  • Decide where to invest, where to wait, and where to walk away.
  • Drive multi-stakeholder sales cycles from the first conversation to a signed contract.
  • Build executive relationships across program managers, contracting officers, senior uniformed leaders, and prime executives.
  • Drive demonstrations and briefings for contract decision-makers.
  • Navigate Congress and the Department when required.
  • Own commercial outcomes through deployment, not just contract signature.
  • Identify manufacturing pain points and assembly bottlenecks where Foundry can create an advantage.
  • Partner with engineering to translate field feedback into product priorities.
  • Develop reference accounts that support expansion.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior military service, particularly operational leadership involving leading people under pressure.
  • Department of War program office experience in the industrial base, maintenance, sustainment, or procurement.
  • Experience at a top-tier strategy consulting firm with defense or manufacturing exposure.
  • Existing relationships across Department of War, prime, and neo-prime executive buying centers.
  • A pattern of moving faster than peers and taking outsized responsibility early.
  • Active or ability to obtain a Department of War/Department of Defense Secret clearance.

About the company

Foundry Robotics develops AI-driven robotic systems and software for industrial manufacturing, focusing on electromechanical assembly. It combines robots, machine learning models, and a software-defined factory architecture where data and feedback continuously improve performance in high-throughput, high-mix environments. It distinguishes itself by targeting assembly automation rather than fabrication or consumer robots, emphasizing AI-first manufacturing, data integration, and programmable processes for observable, adaptable factories (including defense manufacturing). Its goal is to increase efficiency, adaptability, and scalability of industrial operations by making production programmable and data-driven.

What believers are saying

  • Foundry raised $19M seed in April 2026, led by Khosla Ventures.
  • Hiring 22 on-site roles signals aggressive buildout and active execution in Emeryville.
  • Recent job posts target Department of War and primes, opening large defense budgets.

What critics are saying

  • No shipped customers or revenue are public, so product-market fit remains unproven by October 2026.
  • Incumbents ABB, FANUC, KUKA, and Rockwell already dominate industrial assembly automation markets.
  • If deployments stall, the company becomes a capital-intensive lab without contract-manufacturing throughput.

What makes Foundry Robotics unique

  • Khosla-backed, AI-first contract manufacturer targeting electromechanical assembly, not consumer robotics.
  • Emeryville team hired 22 on-site roles, spanning robotics, manufacturing, software, and defense GTM.
  • Defense and dual-use positioning targets national-security-critical hardware and battery pack assembly.
