Requirements
  • 7 years of experience as an Aerospace Physiologist Technician (U.S. military) or an Associate’s degree in Anatomy, Physiology, Biology, or the Life Sciences with least 3 years’ experience as a Hyperbaric Chamber Technician.
  • Experience using physiologic sensor technologies to assess cardiovascular, respiratory, brain, motor, and cognitive functions (e.g., pulse-infrared oximetry, blood pressure monitors, pulmonary function test equipment, respiratory gas analyzers, Doppler sonography, EKG, EMG, and EEG).
  • Experience interacting with people (e.g., research subjects, medical patients, students, etc.) in medical settings, training, or research environments.
  • Experience using e-mail and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • The ability, to pass a FAA Class II physical examination.
  • The ability to climb ladders, lift moderately heavy objects, tolerate enclosed spaces, and be subjected to moderate but rapid changes in temperature and altitude
  • U.S. Citizenship Required - You must be a United States Citizen
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (This employer participates in the e-Verify program)

  • Must be able to submit to and qualify for varying levels of background investigative requirements, up to a Top Secret or DOE "Q" clearance.
Responsibilities
  • The Contractor must assist the Research Physiologist to perform aeromedical experiments in the altitude physiology research laboratory, altitude (hypobaric) chamber, normobaric hypoxic environment, and other research facilities/test beds. Aeromedical experiments may include, but are not limited to: altitude stress, cabin environmental control systems, methods of detection/protection from environmental threats, hypoxia training devices, protective breathing equipment, modeling tools to assess and predict physiologic impairment or incapacitation, and the adequacy of current and emerging technology at altitude or in aviation environment situations.
  • The Contractor must operate and maintain aerospace physiology research devices including the altitude (hypobaric) chamber, the normobaric hypoxia enclosure, aviation oxygen masks, communication equipment (e.g., headsets, oxygen mask microphones), recording equipment, and research instruments. The Contractor must perform set-up, calibration, operation, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment, monitor human subjects, collect data, make observations, calculations, record results, and compile data for aerospace physiology research reports.
  • The Contractor must operate the altitude (hypobaric) chamber and normobaric hypoxia enclosure in compliance with laboratory standardized protocols to simulate the required experiment/research flight environment (e.g., barometric pressure, temperature, humidity, supplemental oxygen, etc.).
  • The Contractor must act as an instructor and inside observer for altitude (hypobaric) and normobaric hypoxia enclosure experiment/research flights. The Contractor must interview research subjects prior to flight for medical conditions that may produce adverse reactions. The Contractor must demonstrate the use of aviation oxygen masks prior to flight and brief research subjects on safety precautions associated with such equipment. During flight, the Contractor must observe subjects for signs of hypoxia, hyperventilation, ear/sinus blocks, decompression sickness, and other physiological injury or illness. Due to the hazardous environment, the Contractor must be able to recognize life-threatening signs and administer the proper and timely response
  • Obtain and maintain CPR/AED and Basic First Aid certifications (e.g., American Heart Association or Red Cross) when necessitated by research projects.
