About the job

Requirements
  • 5–8 years of senior leadership experience managing multiple functional verticals in a high-volume, consumer-facing operation.
  • Direct experience owning Sales and Finance & Insurance performance, with fluency in front-end and back-end margin mechanics at the deal level.
  • A proven track record leading a business development center or inside sales function, with measurable accountability for lead conversion and pipeline metrics.
  • Experience in automotive retail or direct-to-consumer vehicle operations; familiarity with the direct-to-consumer operating model is strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with CDK, Reynolds & Reynolds, or a comparable dealership management system.
  • Experience managing business office and title functions, including multi-state or complex regulatory environments.
  • A track record of hiring, developing, and managing performance to clear, documented standards.
  • Working knowledge of or demonstrated interest in the electric vehicle market and its operational differences from traditional automotive retail.
  • Ability to build a sales organization that meets or exceeds customer expectations and sustains customer enthusiasm for the brand.
  • Experience owning customer escalations, addressing root causes, and achieving positive customer outcomes.
  • Availability during high-volume periods, weekends, and month-end close.
Responsibilities
  • Own retail deal volume targets for the Costa Mesa market and hold the Sales Manager and consultants accountable for closing ratios, front-end margin per unit, and customer experience scores.
  • Drive a consistent sales process from lead to delivery and monitor pipeline health, stage-by-stage conversion, and days to close.
  • Review deals in progress and post-close for margin integrity, proper structure, and adherence to process; coach the Sales Manager on unit economics and objection handling.
  • Identify and address sales-funnel breakdowns before they become systemic issues.
  • Oversee the business development center inbound and outbound pipeline and hold its manager accountable for contact rate, appointment set rate, and show rate.
  • Ensure lead routing, customer relationship management data integrity, and scripting are current and consistently applied.
  • Partner with pricing and inventory functions to align lead flow and vehicle positioning with business development center capacity and conversion performance.
  • Own back-end gross profit per unit targets across product penetration, financing conversion, and chargeback rate.
  • Ensure every deal meets lender guidelines, state regulations, and internal compliance standards.
  • Monitor funding time, deal kickbacks, and stipulation clearance rates as key indicators of Finance & Insurance operations.
  • Identify constraints in Finance & Insurance staffing or role definition and escalate them to the Vice President of Operations before they affect throughput.
  • Ensure title and registration processing meets service-level agreement targets; track deal completion rate and exception volume weekly.
  • Own the documented handoff from Finance to the Business Office, and resolve title issues and lien payoffs without delaying funding.
  • Maintain awareness of title and registration requirements across active states relevant to San Francisco hub transactions.
  • Run structured weekly reviews with team leads, use data to diagnose trends, assign corrective action, and track resolution.
  • Translate company-level gross profit per unit, deal volume, and margin targets into vertical-specific goals with owners and timelines.
  • Drive standard operating procedure implementations, system rollouts, and process improvements from design through full team adoption.
  • Own the hub’s gross profit contribution and manage the operational levers that affect it.
  • Set standards for how the team operates, handles pressure, escalates problems, and serves customers.
  • Meet performance targets for front-end and back-end gross profit per unit and blended gross profit per unit across closings.
  • Meet targets for deal volume, close rate, days to fund, stipulation clearance rate, and business development center appointment-to-show conversion.
  • Maintain chargeback rate and title completion rate within defined thresholds.
  • Oversee staffing, performance management, and retention across all four verticals, including regular one-to-ones and documented coaching for all direct reports.
  • Ensure key roles are filled and ramp-ready before staffing gaps become operational constraints.
  • Enforce and continuously improve processes across Sales, the business development center, Finance & Insurance, and the Business Office.
  • Ensure end-to-end deal integrity, including lender compliance, state title and registration requirements, CDK data accuracy, and contract packaging.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with the direct-to-consumer operating model and its demands.

About the company

Ever is an AI-native EV retailer based in San Francisco that operates a nationwide online and offline marketplace for used electric vehicles. It offers certified pre-owned EVs from more than 30 brands, allows customers to get instant trade-in offers by plate or VIN, and lets buyers trade in gas or electric cars, arrange financing online, and choose delivery or pickup. Vehicle listings include estimated monthly payments and battery/package details. The company also runs Eve, an AI assistant that helps with shopping, selling, and ownership questions. Ever earns revenue by buying and reselling used EVs and by providing financing and related services, blending a digital storefront with physical locations and logistics to reach customers nationwide. Its goal is to make EV ownership simpler, more transparent, and accessible to buyers across the United States.

What believers are saying

  • Reuters reported used EV sales rose 21% in January 2026, widening Ever's addressable market.
  • Ever said it served thousands across 40 states, showing early national traction.
  • Used EVs gained affordability as prices neared gas cars, expanding first-time buyer demand.

What critics are saying

  • Tesla dominates used EV supply, pressuring Ever's margins through nonstop price competition.
  • Ever's existential risk: EV retail stays niche, and inventory turns slow before burn shrinks runway.

Eclipse leads $31M Series A for Ever, an AI-native EV marketplace

Ever, a startup positioning itself as the first AI-native, full-stack marketplace for electric vehicles, has raised $31 million in a Series A round led by Eclipse. Ibex Investors, Lifeline Ventures and JIMCO, the investment arm of Saudi Arabia's Jameel family, co-invested. The company operates both an online marketplace and physical locations for buying and selling used EVs. Ever's platform uses an AI-powered orchestration system that handles hundreds of workflows behind each transaction, from appraisals to titling. CEO Lasse-Mathias Nyberg claims this approach makes the sales team two to three times more productive than traditional retailers. Founded in 2022, Ever currently focuses exclusively on electric vehicles, though it hasn't ruled out expanding to combustion vehicles. Eclipse partner Jiten Behl, who spent eight years at Rivian, led the investment.
