Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association must be obtained within 90 days of hire; Basic Life Support through the American Red Cross may be acceptable at some Pennsylvania practice locations.
  • The role requires knowledge of medical terminology.
  • The role requires familiarity with medical office procedures.
  • The role requires the ability to perform patient-care activities including kneeling, bending, squatting, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • The role requires the ability to lift and carry 25 pounds and frequently sit, stand, and use a keyboard.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians as they assess, examine, and treat patients.
  • Manage patient flow and escort patients to examination rooms while ensuring proper patient identification.
  • Perform and document vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
  • Remain proficient and knowledgeable in using and documenting within information technology systems according to the established scope of practice.
  • Assist physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures, including electrocardiograms, venipuncture, and injections, using appropriate clinical skills.
  • Act as a liaison to physicians to support patient satisfaction.
  • Adhere to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act privacy and security requirements.
  • Order clinical supplies to maintain inventory and facilitate smooth office operations.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience in a physician office or other healthcare setting is preferred.
  • For New Jersey positions, graduation from an accredited post-secondary medical assisting education program that includes at least 330 hours of instruction and training in administering intramuscular and subcutaneous injections is required.
