About the job

Requirements
  • A university degree in computer science, computer engineering, or electrical engineering with a focus on digital systems or computer architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • Expertise in at least two of these areas: computer architecture and systems; machine-learning systems and AI infrastructure; heterogeneous accelerators and emerging computing architectures.
  • A systems-level understanding of modern AI technology stacks, including training and inference workflows, numerical kernels, memory hierarchies, data movement, interconnects, accelerator hardware, and system software, and the ability to explain bottlenecks and architectural approaches to address them.
  • Programming skills in Python and/or C/C++.
  • Curiosity and openness toward external technology developments, and ability to engage directly with startups, research groups, and technology providers, understand their technical approaches, and assess their relevance.
  • An analytical approach to technology trends, flexibility to revise views when evidence changes, and ability to present complex topics clearly.
  • Business-fluent English.
Responsibilities
  • Analyze AI computing systems end-to-end, understanding how training and inference workloads run on modern data-center architectures and identifying bottlenecks in compute, memory, interconnects, and energy efficiency.
  • Explore established, emerging, and new computing architectures, including custom accelerators, chiplets, in- and near-memory computing, optical and analog computing, and heterogeneous systems.
  • Build and benchmark hands-on proof-of-concepts to test architectural hypotheses and quantitatively assess their potential against the state of the art.
  • Engage with startups, research groups, and technology providers to assess maturity and differentiation, and distinguish fundamental technology shifts from incremental improvements.
Desired Qualifications
  • A PhD or equivalent research experience.
  • Experience with GPU computing, parallel programming, distributed systems, compilers, runtimes, or high-performance computing environments.

ZEISS launches NLX X-ray inspection and DUNE wafer warpage correction for advanced chip packaging

ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology (SMT) has launched two systems for advanced chip packaging: ZEISS NLX and ZEISS DUNE. The company announced them in San Francisco on October 12, 2026, as chips grow more complex. ZEISS NLX inspects the inside of chip packages without damaging them. It helps manufacturers spot defects in connections between stacked dies early, and it handles 300-millimetre wafers in both process development and high-volume production. ZEISS DUNE measures the topography of a wafer and corrects wafer bow individually. This helps avoid yield losses in downstream processing and prepares bonding processes. ZEISS SMT is showing the systems at SEMICON West, alongside its photomask tools. The company is also marking 100 years of business in the US in 2026.
