Requirements
  • At least two years of experience in court reporting.
  • National Court Reporters Association Registered Professional Reporter (NCRA RPR) or equivalent certification (e.g., state certification, NVRA, or other licensure)
  • Credentials must be provided within one week upon request of the client
  • Ability to accurately report legal proceedings (stenography) at speeds of 225 words per minute and translate takedown from steno to English
  • Working knowledge of legal and medical terminology; correct grammar, spelling, punctuation; and basic mathematics
  • Knowledge and understanding of laws, rules, and regulations governing the court reporting profession and transcription activities, policies, and procedures
  • Ability to use court reporting and transcription equipment
  • Knowledge of general office practices, procedures, equipment, and technology
  • Compliance with National Court Reporters Association professional standards
  • Maintaining exhibits and documentary evidence
  • Effective communication with counsel, coworkers, supervisors, and the public
  • Consecutive employment in a position with comparable responsibilities within the past five years (Virginia Court Reporter requirement)
  • Proficiency in using a computer to communicate via email; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and related tools and technology required for the position

Responsibilities
  • Provide verbatim transcription services of testimony for proceedings including fact-findings, review boards, hearings, administrative investigations, Inspector General investigations, depositions, arbitrations, and other similar proceedings requiring a transcribed record
  • Record testimony face-to-face or remotely via video teleconference, telephone, or electronic platforms such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom for Government
  • Handle complex litigations and maintain discretion, confidentiality, and urgency
  • Perform real-time transcription of depositions and arbitrations
  • Collaborate with team, client contracting officer representatives, engagement team members, and firm management
  • Test virtual litigation platform and provide feedback from a Court Reporter perspective to improve the platform
  • Attend depositions and other proceedings (online or in-person) requiring written transcripts using the platform
  • Provide rough drafts of transcripts to counsel and parties upon request
  • Provide real-time service during live depositions when requested
  • Stenographically record and produce an accurate verbatim record of proceedings
  • Transcribe, proof, and prepare transcripts for distribution using required court reporting tools and platforms
  • Maintain exhibits during depositions as needed using court reporting tools and platforms
  • Partner with scopists and proofreaders for transcript completion
  • Record verbatim proceedings of courts, legislative assemblies, committee meetings, and other proceedings using stenograph machines
  • Prepare accurate final transcript per client request; submit final ASCII via online portal
  • Proofread transcripts for correct spelling; clarify inaudible statements when speakers request
  • Provide transcripts of proceedings upon request of judges, lawyers, or the public
  • Transcribe recorded proceedings in accordance with established formats
