OnBoard launches AI Assist, bringing conversational semantic AI to board management platform

OnBoard has launched AI Assist, a conversational AI tool integrated into its board management platform. The feature allows directors, administrators, and executives to ask questions in plain language and retrieve information from past discussions and decisions, with answers cited to their sources. AI Assist operates within existing access permissions and does not use customer data to train AI models. During beta testing, the tool helped boards uncover significant information buried in past materials, such as risks or unresolved conditions from earlier approvals. According to OnBoard's 2026 Board Effectiveness Survey, 92% of directors used AI for board work in the previous six months, whilst 63% serve on boards without AI governance policies. The feature is available to all OnBoard customers. OnBoard serves more than 7,000 organisations across 60 countries.

OnBoard launches AI Assist, the first full-context semantic AI in board management.

OnBoard launches AI Assist, the first full-context semantic AI in board management. Conversational AI connects directors with past discussions and decisions through cited answers inside their board management platform. INDIANAPOLIS - SEPTEMBER 30, 2026 - OnBoard today announced the launch of AI Assist, bringing secure frontier AI into the board management platform directors already use. Available today to every OnBoard customer, the conversational experience lets directors, administrators, and executives ask questions in plain language, explore earlier discussions, and interrogate data - with answers cited to their sources - as they prepare for meetings. According to OnBoard's 2026 Board Effectiveness Survey, 92% of directors used AI for board work in the previous six months, while 63% serve on boards without a policy governing its use. OnBoard AI Assist works within existing access permissions, so users retrieve only materials they are authorized to view. Customer data is never used to train AI models and directors judgment is necessary before a single decision is made. While in beta testing, AI Assist helped boards surface information that could change a decision - from a significant risk buried in past board materials to an unresolved condition attached to an earlier investment approval, directors can now connect today's proposal to that history, with cited sources they can examine before the vote. "Every director wants to ask the sharp question, and that takes context beyond this month's packet," said Tim Adair, Chief Product Officer. "When an item returns to the agenda, the useful question is often what has changed since the last discussion. That history will now be immediately surfaced for them." AI Assist strengthens the institutional memory at the heart of Governance IQ, a promise and outcome OnBoard launched in July to connect board history with industry knowledge and individual expertise. By making past discussions and decisions easier to consult, AI Assist helps that knowledge remain useful as directors come and go. "When a longtime committee chair retires, the next director still needs to understand why earlier decisions were made," said Marc Huffman, Chief Executive Officer. "We want that knowledge to remain useful to the board long after the people who contributed it have moved on. AI Assist lets a board carry its context across years of decisions, not just the last few meetings." A live demonstration takes place October 15 at 11 a.m. ET. Tim Adair will walk through a board-preparation scenario, joined by Michael Staden, Senior Director of Product Management, for Q&A. AIONA raises $19M to develop AI-powered design automation for manufacturing

AIONA has raised JPY 140 million to develop AI-driven design solutions for Japan's manufacturing sector. The funding round was led by ONBOARD, with participation from GxPartners, Crest Skill Partners, and Mizuho Capital through J-KISS-type stock acquisition rights, plus loans from Aichi Bank and Mizuho Bank. The Tokyo-based startup will use the funds to strengthen its development team and accelerate its AI agent "REVY". The platform automates design tasks including quality function deployment, reuse design selection, and design reviews. Japan's manufacturing industry faces skilled worker shortages as experienced engineers retire. REVY addresses this by capturing tacit knowledge from past technical documents and drawings, allowing designers to focus on higher-level decisions rather than searching and verifying information. The company plans to expand REVY's capabilities from individual design tasks to entire design processes over the coming year.
