About the job

Requirements
  • 10+ years of engineering experience.
  • 7+ years of technical product or program management experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience.
  • Experience managing programs across cross-functional teams, building processes, and coordinating release schedules.
  • Experience in architectural design or system design independent of an architect.
  • Experience communicating verbally and in writing with executive-level leaders.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • A track record of defining and delivering programs in ambiguous spaces where neither the business nor technical strategy was defined, operating with complete independence.
  • A strong technical background and the judgment to evaluate end-to-end system designs for scalability, latency, reliability, and quality, and to identify risks in technical strategies, architectures, and engineering organization structures.
  • The ability to create mechanisms, metrics, and standards that other teams adopt, and to act as a force multiplier across teams.
Responsibilities
  • Own and scale the Amazon Stores Agent on Alexa+-enabled Echo Family Devices, launching agentic store actions that let customers complete multi-step tasks across Registries, Payments, Subscribe & Save, Addresses, Orders, and Returns through natural conversation.
  • Drive the program from its first actions to a customer-complete experience, maintaining a high task-completion bar and establishing shared routing, evaluation, and API integration foundations so customers can complete whole tasks hands-free and new actions can ship faster.
  • Define and own a portfolio of very large programs across Alexa Shopping teams and organizations, beginning with the Amazon Stores Agent, and decompose ambiguous organization-level goals into clear workstreams teams can execute independently.
  • Anticipate future needs and establish horizontal initiatives before they become blockers, defining the problem, scope, success criteria, and ownership where none exist.
  • Remediate critical, recurring problems across teams by aligning engineering, science, and product leaders on shared priorities, sequencing, and trade-offs.
  • Create, optimize, and drive adoption of metrics, reviews, and operating mechanisms that make horizontal programs measurable and durable.
  • Establish standards and best practices, including quality automation and shift-left practices that run alongside developers and generate and execute tests across devices, endpoints, and geographies before changes ship.
  • Track and communicate program health, delivery milestones, technical risks, and resource constraints to senior leadership; handle escalations and exercise judgment in executive-level escalations.
  • Build durable partnerships with peer teams across vice-president organizations and business lines to deliver programs requiring coordination beyond any single organization.
  • Identify risks and opportunities in technical strategies, architectures, and engineering organization structures, and influence system owners, investment, and technology direction for agentic AI systems.
  • Clearly represent complex decisions, difficult trade-offs, and potential solutions verbally and in writing to leaders up to three levels above, clarifying decisions and available options.
  • Educate TPM and engineering communities on program-management best practices and share knowledge at internal conferences and community events.
  • Mentor TPMs across the organization, help managers guide team career growth, and contribute to Principal TPM promotion assessments and talent reviews.
  • Recruit for Amazon and raise the bar in the hiring and interview process.
Desired Qualifications
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience managing complex technology projects.
  • Experience managing projects across cross-functional teams, building sustainable processes, and coordinating release schedules.
  • Experience leading testing, quality, or developer-productivity programs at scale across multiple teams.
  • Experience with AI/ML products, conversational interfaces, or voice-first experiences, and a technical understanding of agentic architectures and multi-step task orchestration.
  • Experience building or driving adoption of test automation and evaluation frameworks, ideally leveraging large language models or agentic workflows.
  • A track record of remediating recurring cross-organizational problems and driving architecture or organization changes that let teams work independently.
  • Experience influencing architectural and investment decisions for large-scale, customer-facing systems.
  • Experience developing the TPM community through mentoring, promotion assessments, and best-practice education.

About the company

Amazon runs the largest online store in the United States and rents cloud computing to businesses and governments through Amazon Web Services. AWS pioneered renting computing power over the internet, and Amazon built its own delivery network to get orders to customers quickly. Shoppers buy from Amazon and from independent sellers on its store, and Prime members pay a subscription for fast free shipping, streaming video and music, and other perks. AWS rents out computing power, storage, databases, and AI tools so companies can run software without owning servers, and Amazon also makes Kindle e-readers and Echo speakers with the Alexa assistant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994, and it is based in Seattle, Washington.

What believers are saying

  • AI drives growth: AWS's AI and custom-chip sales each more than doubled, passing $25 billion a year by June 2026.
  • Stock grants gained value: shares hit a record in August 2026, making Amazon the fifth company to reach $3 trillion.
  • Ads are a third engine beside stores and AWS: they grew 26% to $19.8 billion in the June 2026 quarter.

What critics are saying

  • AWS's lead is shrinking: in the June 2026 quarter, Google Cloud grew 82% and Microsoft's Azure 43%, versus AWS's 37%.
  • Job security has slipped: Amazon cut 30,000 corporate jobs in October 2025 and January 2026 to reduce management layers.
  • Expect five office days a week: Amazon ended its three-day hybrid policy for corporate staff in January 2025.

What makes Amazon unique

  • Most of Amazon's profit comes from cloud: AWS made 21% of sales but 60% of operating profit in mid-2026.
  • Amazon is America's biggest parcel carrier by volume: it handled 6.9 billion packages in 2025, more than the Postal Service.
  • Writing matters more than slides: Amazon meetings open with silent reading of a six-page memo instead of PowerPoint.

Amazon says Prime Video is profitable, while Apple TV+ reportedly loses over $1B a year

Amazon says its Prime Video is now profitable, while Apple's streaming service reportedly still loses money. Amazon chief executive officer Andy Jassy said on the third-quarter earnings call that Prime Video has a revenue run rate in the tens of billions of dollars. Amazon does not report its financials separately, but the ad tier reaches more than 315 million monthly active users, including more than 130 million in the US, according to The Wrap. Users can pay $4.99 a month for an ad-free version. Apple TV+ loses more than $1 billion a year, The Information reported. Apple spends about $4.5 billion on content annually, down from $5 billion, and the service has about 45 million subscribers at $14.99 a month.

Nvidia, Amazon and Alphabet: 3 AI stocks to buy in November after 10% post-earnings dip

A Motley Fool columnist names Amazon, Alphabet, and Nvidia as top AI stocks to buy in November. Amazon and Alphabet fell after their latest earnings, which he calls short-sighted. Google Cloud revenue rose 103% in the third quarter, lifting Alphabet's overall growth to 25%. The stock still dropped more than 10% the next day. Amazon Web Services grew 39% and makes up 63% of Amazon's operating profits. Both companies plan to spend $200 billion or more on capital expenditure this year. Nvidia has guided for 70% revenue growth in 2027 and trades at 26 times trailing earnings, or 13 times next year's projected earnings. If it returned to 26 times, the columnist says, the stock would double.

Amazon's $2B Ohio data centre faces vote as 41 AI infrastructure measures go to ballot

Amazon's planned $2 billion data center in Sunbury, Ohio, faces a threat on Tuesday, when residents vote on a measure that could block it. The ban would cover facilities needing more than 25 megawatts of electricity. It is one of 41 data-center ballot measures across 10 states. Of these, 28 would restrict development and 13 would ease it; Ohio accounts for 21. Voters backed tighter limits in all six measures decided earlier this year, with 66% to 90% in favour. Amazon won tax incentives in 2024, promising 50 permanent jobs, but the city has imposed a moratorium through January 2027. Residents cite electricity demand, water use, and noise. Amazon declined to say whether the votes would alter its expansion plans.

Amazon jumps 5% as Phillip Securities upgrades to Buy with $330 target

Amazon shares jumped 5% after Phillip Securities upgraded the stock to Buy with a $330 price target. Investors had sold the stock on Friday over artificial intelligence spending that outran cash flow, as they did at Alphabet and Meta Platforms. Phillip analyst Helena Wang pointed to strong demand. Amazon Web Services (AWS) revenue grew 39% to $46.0 billion last quarter, and its backlog reached $578 billion. Capital spending hit $77.3 billion in the September quarter, leaving free cash flow at a $42.4 billion outflow over the past twelve months. Chief executive officer Andy Jassy said Amazon expects to "spend meaningfully more in 2027." Amazon's forward price-to-earnings ratio fell to 24x on Friday, its lowest in five years.

CarbiCrete supplies Amazon with 6,400m² of cement-free pavers at UK delivery station

CarbiCrete has supplied Amazon with cement-free concrete products for a new Amazon UK delivery station in Stockton-on-Tees. It is the first wide-scale deployment of the Montreal-based company's cement-free pavers anywhere in the world. The products cover about 6,400m² of parking spaces and footpaths. The site is Amazon's first building to pursue version 1.1 of Living Future's Zero Carbon Certification. CarbiCrete replaces all the cement in its products with a steel-making by-product and cures the concrete with carbon dioxide, which stays stored in the material. Cement production accounts for about 8% of global carbon dioxide emissions. CarbiCrete is now exploring future projects, including with Amazon, through its manufacturing sites in Canada, Europe, the US, and Australia.
