About the company

Rothy's designs and sells footwear and accessories that are made from recycled materials, including plastic bottles and ocean-bound marine plastic. The products are offered directly to customers through an online store, rothys.com, with options for women, men, and children, plus gift cards and a referral program. The way it works is simple: materials are recycled into new products (shoes, handbags, and accessories) and sold online, with sizing and styles chosen by the customer to fit everyday use. The company differentiates itself by committing to sustainability—using recycled and ocean-bound plastics—and by maintaining full control over its brand and pricing through a direct-to-consumer model. Its goal is to provide fashionable, comfortable items while reducing environmental impact and encouraging more sustainable fashion.

What believers are saying

  • March 2026 Nordstrom 'Make Room for Shoes' capsule expanded Rothy's national reach.
  • April and July 2026 store openings in Southlake and Philadelphia keep comp-store discovery strong.
  • August 2026 kids launch and fair harbor collaboration broaden categories beyond core women's flats.

What critics are saying

  • MIA litigation showed imitators target Rothy's easiest designs; copycats will keep compressing margins.
  • Wholesale now near one-third of revenue, weakening pricing control and increasing Nordstrom dependence.
  • If sustainable-fashion demand cools, Rothy's becomes a style brand with no durable moat.

What makes Rothy's unique

  • Proprietary 3D knitting and washable recycled materials create repeatable comfort and lower waste.
  • September 2026 Delaware judgment validated ten design patents and The Point, The Flat trade dress.
  • Rothy's blends DTC, Nordstrom wholesale, and owned stores without abandoning premium sustainability branding.

Our kids tested Rothy's (very nice) kids' shoes.

Its kids tested Rothy's (very nice) kids' shoes. Aug. 7, 2026 I first bought a pair of Rothy's shoes a few years ago after Strategist contributor Erika Veurink wrote about walking all over Florence in the brand's Square mary janes. Since then, I've talked to dozens of women who love various Rothy's styles and recently became infatuated with a pair of Rothy's fisherman sandals myself. But I was still surprised to notice that Rothy's makes kids' shoes, too, from mini versions of the adult ballet flats and mary janes to an impressive and growing line of sneakers, clogs, loafers, and sandals in sizes little-kid 8 to big-kid 3. So I asked two other Strategist staffers to join me in testing a few pairs on its kids ranging in ages from 3.5 to 8 years old. Rothy's shoes look better on kids. The appeal of Rothy's shoes is not that they are the most stylish or trendy shoes around. It's that they are reliably nice-looking and easy, especially since one of the brand's key selling points is that its shoes can be thrown in the washing machine or quickly rinsed off in the sink. But there are instances when that proposition breaks down for adults: Even the most sophisticated Rothy's styles are usually too casual for weddings or other formal events. For kids, that's not really an issue - and the children's versions of Rothy's are brighter and just more fun. There are clogs covered in rainbows and daisies, slip-on loafers accented with cherries and sardines, candy-striped mary janes, and Velcro sneakers in watermelon pink and electric blue. Rothy's also just launched a new kid sneaker, the Stretch sneaker, with elasticated no-tie laces. Aurielle Sayeh, a creative director and DJ, has a 4-year-old daughter with a really colorful wardrobe that she says pairs perfectly with Rothy's kids' shoes, especially the sardine loafers (which she told me she has put in the washing machine without any worries).

Rothy's finds the 'perfect spot' for Philadelphia debut.

Rothy's finds the 'perfect spot' for Philadelphia debut. Published Date: July 21, 2026, 12:26 PM EDT A sustainable footwear and accessories brand will open this fall in Philadelphia's Rittenhouse Square neighborhood. Video Muted Rothy's will debut at 1613 Walnut St., and Gio Lepori, vice president of global retail, told Whatnow Philadelphia the brand always had Philadelphia on its expansion roadmap and waited until it found the "perfect spot." The company's closest location currently operates at the King of Prussia Mall. "Rittenhouse Square is a neighborhood where people don't just pass through. They spend time there, they discover new places, and they come back. It has a strong local identity alongside brands people know and trust, and that's exactly the kind of community we look for. Our goal isn't simply to open a store, but to become part of the neighborhood," Lepori said. Rothy's designs and sells machine-washable shoes, handbags and accessories made from recycled materials using its 3D knitting process. The upcoming store will feature Rothy's signature open-concept layout designed to create a welcoming shopping experience. "We design our stores to encourage people to slow down, try different styles, ask questions, and spend time with the collection. Craftsmanship, fit and comfort are things that are best understood in person, and our stores give customers the opportunity to experience those qualities for themselves," he said. The team is eager to become part of the Philadelphia community. "Every new store is an opportunity to become part of a new community, and that's always the most rewarding part of the job. One of my favorite moments is watching someone try on Rothy's for the first time. That moment when they experience the comfort of our shoes for the first time. "It's an exciting milestone for us, and we're eager to become part of the Rittenhouse neighborhood," Lepori said. An official opening date has not been announced. Vuori names first-ever chief product officer.

Vuori names first-ever chief product officer. 4 hours ago American activewear brand Vuori has appointed Heather Archibald as its new chief product officer, effective April 20, to advance its "product-first vision built on innovation and performance". In the newly created role, Archibald has been tasked with leading the end-to-end product organisation and overseeing the lifecycle of the product portfolio from design and development to merchandising, raw material planning, production and sourcing strategy. The new role aims to advance Vuori's global product strategy and innovation roadmap, states the California-based brand, while also shaping its line and assortment architecture and investment strategy, and continuously elevating the brand and product experience. Joe Kudla, founder and chief executive of Vuori, said in a statement: "This is an exciting moment for Vuori as we continue to build on our strong momentum and invest in the capabilities that will carry us forward. "With Heather joining the brand, we're reinforcing our commitment to a product-first approach, deepening innovation, sharpening storytelling and assortments, and bringing even greater rigour to how we scale while maintaining a deep connection with our consumers." Archibald will join Vuori from footwear brand Rothy, where she served as chief product and merchandising officer. Before Rothy, Archibald held various product leadership roles across global brands, including as chief product officer at Title Nine, and product and merchandising leadership roles at both Restoration Hardware and Gap Inc. Commenting on her new role, Archibald said: "Vuori has built something truly distinctive at the intersection of covetable, high-quality product, its strong 'Built to Move In. Styled for Life' north star and a clear, sustainable mission, each setting the stage for an unbelievable future. "I'm honoured to join the brand on this growth journey. It's an exciting time for us to continue elevating the product experience through innovation and grounded in our deep understanding of the consumer." Archibald's appointment follows Vuori naming Tom Holland as "a creative, strategic, and financial partner," after signing a multi-year partnership with the British actor, producer, and entrepreneur. Founded in 2015, Vuori has quickly established itself as a category leader in the activewear and lifestyle market and hit its 100-store milestone in late 2025. It currently serves consumers across close to 30 countries and is continuing to drive growth with a focus on key markets in the US, Europe and Asia. By the end of 2026, Vuori expects to add 25 additional new locations, including 15 international store locations.
