Who you are
To advance Understood’s mission and to further our impact, we’re hiring a Staff Product Manager, reporting to our Group Product Manager.
We believe that technology can help us increase the reach of previously unscalable resources and interventions. We are seeking a Staff Product Manager to help us do exactly that, joining a passionate and cross-functional team of engineers, designers, researchers, content creators, and more. They will be responsible for increasing our impact further by crafting and delivering on new strategies and bets.
The ideal candidate has years of experience discovering, building and shipping consumer software products at scale. From those years, they can show both impressive wins and insightful failures. They are equal parts storyteller and builder, and prefer impactful change over a comfortable status quo.
This is a hybrid opportunity, which requires three (3) days per week in our NYC office.
What you’ll do
- Build a product vision and strategy for your product area, rallying the rest of the organization around creative ideas for how to help our audience thrive using software.
- Guided by that vision, you’ll autonomously develop and execute on a roadmap of bets that solve important and real problems, and that leverage our unique strengths as a “tech fluent” nonprofit.
- Take ownership and accountability for the products you build, and their positive impact on people who learn and think differently.
- Collaborate with an Engineering Manager to lead the day-to-day activities of a squad, using a philosophy of empowerment and high-context leadership.
- Build connective tissue and relationships between your squad and the rest of the organization, including our leadership team, to maximize impact.
- Be an advocate for our product, team, and values.
Must-haves
- At least 5 years of experience as a product manager at a consumer-facing company, with demonstrable business impact.
- You first and foremost lead with vision, and can break down ambiguous goals into both actionable roadmaps and convincing narratives that inspire large teams.
- Your strategy and decision-making is fueled by analysis, and you have experience both defining and using metrics/KPI frameworks to drive and justify decisions.
- You are scrappy and impact focused, applying ruthless prioritization to maximize positive impact rather than letting Perfect get in the way of Done.
- Proven track record of improving the ways of working for software teams, and are comfortable with modern agile methodologies.
- You are technically conversant and can comfortably manage technically complex products.
- You reflect on successes, challenges, and lessons learned, and proactively improve based on those insights.
- You thrive in a collaborative environment and are motivated to promote and extend a culture of teamwork, collaboration, and knowledge sharing.
- You think independently and would prefer to experiment, take risks, and even fail, rather than sticking to the status-quo.
- You are committed to embodying and being a steward of our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging.
The base salary range for this role is minimum $165,000 - $185,000 maximum, depending on years of experience and qualifications. We offer a comprehensive benefits package that supports wellness for our team members and their families. You can learn more about our benefits and offerings.
