Requirements
  • Willingness to develop an understanding of and support for The Salvation Army’s mission and purpose in Canada and its implications for the position’s responsibilities.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and follow The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Successfully undergo applicable screening and background checks satisfactory to The Salvation Army, including an Abuse Registry check, and provide an original copy of the background check screening.
  • Addictions counselling courses.
  • A social services diploma or a related diploma or degree.
  • At least one year of experience in frontline social service work.
  • Ability to perform extensive keyboarding or manual record keeping, and occasionally lift or pack clients’ or residents’ property and personal effects and engage in recreational activities.
  • Attentive listening and observation of body language, continuous environmental monitoring, multitasking, and reading ability.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, meet deadlines, and cope with stressful situations.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor the environment and clients or residents to ensure safety and security, including conducting regular status checks and room searches as required.
  • Develop and implement case management for assigned clients or residents; assist them in establishing goals, monitor progress, and prepare discharge plans.
  • Maintain and update appropriate client or resident documentation, including in-out and incident log books, and initiate new documentation as needed.
  • Complete reports required by the funder and The Salvation Army.
  • Coordinate and facilitate resident programming as required.
  • Perform intake and discharge procedures for clients or residents as assigned.
  • Monitor appropriate behavior, intervene in crisis situations, and provide emotional support and advocacy as required.
  • Distribute funds to residents in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
  • Develop interpersonal relationships that promote dignity and respect.
  • Conduct scheduled check-ins with residents on community passes, escort residents in the community when necessary, and monitor their behavior.
  • Liaise with police, funders, court personnel, community agencies, families, and other staff members.
  • Provide orientation to newly hired staff, volunteers, and students.
  • Attend four mandatory in-person staff meetings per year.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
