Requirements
  • A high school degree or equivalent is required.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant from an accepted accredited organization is required.
  • Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association, or obtain it within 60 days of hire, is required.
  • The role requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of up to eight hours at a time.
  • The role occasionally requires lifting up to 25 pounds and pushing wheelchairs with patients weighing up to 325 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating the patient's medical record with recent test results and correspondence before appointments, and determine needed services in consultation with the provider.
  • Complete pre-charting of value-based items up to five days before patient appointments and send messages to the Care Team when warranted.
  • Prepare patients for examination and escort them to exam rooms; record height, weight, and vital signs; update medication lists, allergies, personal, family, and social history; ask about smoking status and reason for visit; and assist with demographic information.
  • Provide other directed patient care services, keep exam rooms clean, maintain clinical supplies, clean and autoclave contaminated instruments, and administer injections or immunizations within state guidelines.
  • Coordinate with providers or the Care Team regarding hospital discharges, Emergency Department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, education on chronic conditions, laboratory and other testing, and specialist visits.
  • Attend departmental meetings, contribute to resolving identified problems, and analyze current procedures.
  • Dispose of biohazardous and regular waste according to practice protocol.
  • Maintain vaccine temperature logs, inventory and order medical supplies such as vaccines and medications, dispose of expired sample medication, and stock rooms to established par levels.
  • Perform administrative tasks as needed, including check-in and check-out functions and opening and closing office procedures.
  • Bring suggestions for improvement to Practice Managers and Providers for consideration.
  • Participate in maintaining or improving quality-improvement initiatives.
  • Complete the applicable 30/60/90-day onboarding checklist to confirm mastery of skills relevant to the service line, with acknowledgment by practice leadership or a provider where appropriate.
Desired Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is strongly preferred.
  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred.
