Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or a related field, or equivalent education and/or work experience, is required.
  • At least 2 years of related work experience specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low- or medium-voltage variable frequency drives is required.
  • Successful working relationships with clients, suppliers, and other internal and external contacts are required.
  • Successful personal leadership, interpersonal, organizational, administrative, and communication skills are required.
  • Continuous improvement in areas of responsibility is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, and Visio is required.
  • Ability to climb and work on cranes at heights of approximately 175 feet occasionally is required.
  • Availability to travel domestically and internationally approximately 15%, occasionally with limited notice, is required.
Responsibilities
  • Define project system requirements and develop system specifications for variable speed drive applications in Industrial Systems projects.
  • Develop detailed system specifications in collaboration with mechanical original equipment manufacturers and end-user clients according to contracts and global industry standards.
  • Specify low- and medium-voltage variable frequency drives for new and retrofit projects, including incoming panels, harmonic filter panels, and output reactor panels.
  • Troubleshoot low- and medium-voltage AC and DC variable frequency drive application issues at client sites as assigned.
  • Create electrical circuit drawings that meet project requirements and quality standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to internal and external clients and suppliers to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Develop and maintain processes and procedures supporting variable frequency drive configuration and tuning.
  • Ensure shipped systems meet client requirements, system specifications, and performance guarantees defined in project contracts.
  • Perform development tasks for drive features or applications for new and existing variable frequency drives.
  • Evaluate supplier proposals to determine technically appropriate and cost-effective application solutions.
  • Manage equipment costs and recommend feasible cost reductions.
  • Prepare purchase specifications and enterprise resource planning requisitions to support project schedules.
  • Conduct detailed internal and external design reviews with suppliers and clients.
  • Provide technical and costing information for technical proposals using client specifications and company solutions.
  • Provide technical consultation to help clients specify solutions to technology challenges and develop company projects.
  • Provide project management services as assigned.
  • Collaborate with peers and interact across organizational functions as required.
  • Recommend viable improvements and ensure effective use of business tools and processes.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least 5 years of related work experience specifying, designing, commissioning, and/or maintaining low- or medium-voltage variable frequency drives.
  • Knowledge of variable frequency drive applications in complex coordinated control systems.
  • Knowledge of DC-to-DC or DC-to-AC variable frequency drive retrofit projects.
  • Knowledge, skills, and experience in project engineering and/or project management.
  • Successful working relationships with mechanical original equipment manufacturers and end-user clients.
  • Knowledge of electrical computer-aided design software such as AutoCAD or EPLAN.
