Apparatus is a New York design studio that designs and fabricates sculptural lighting, furniture, and objects in its own factory, then sells through its galleries in New York, Los Angeles, and London. Its products fuse luxurious, artisanal materials such as marble, suede, horsehair, lacquer, porcelain, and hand-patinated brass into handcrafted pieces that are functional as well as artistic. The studio follows a Gesamtkunstwerk approach, creating holistic environments where every piece fits a single artistic vision and contributes to a larger installation. Unlike others who source or outsource production, Apparatus controls the making process in-house, emphasizing artisanal craftsmanship and custom, high-end design for both residential and commercial projects. The goal is to deliver total, immersive design experiences through carefully crafted objects and environments that align with a refined, modernist aesthetic.

Simplify Jobs

Simplify's Take

What believers are saying

  • June 2026 Chelsea and Midtown visibility keeps Apparatus culturally relevant with wealthy clients.
  • Jeremy Anderson’s 2026 Galerie56 ceramics show expands adjacent demand for Apparatus aesthetics.
  • The London, New York, and Los Angeles footprint supports international client conversion and repeat commissions.

What critics are saying

  • The business depends heavily on Gabriel Hendifar and Jeremy Anderson; founder disruption hurts fast.
  • Handcrafted, one-off production limits scale and leaves margins exposed to labor and material shocks.
  • Luxury design demand weakens quickly; a 2026 slowdown in discretionary interiors hits revenue immediately.

What makes APPARATUS unique

  • Apparatus owns a New York factory, controlling craftsmanship, quality, and customization.
  • Its 2023 Mayfair gallery gives Apparatus a European showroom and brand theatre.
  • Gabriel Hendifar’s Gesamtkunstwerk aesthetic makes products, interiors, and events feel unmistakably Apparatus.
