Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration is required.
  • At least eight years of healthcare finance experience are required.
  • At least five years of financial management and supervisory experience in a healthcare setting are required.
  • Strong collaboration, team-building, and consensus-building skills are required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to provide constructive feedback to team members are required.
  • High-level problem identification, mitigation, and resolution skills and public speaking skills are required.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint are required.
  • Working knowledge of accounting information systems is required.
  • The ability to adapt and quickly learn other computer applications is required.
  • The ability to work with and maintain confidential information is required.
Responsibilities
  • Plan, coordinate, and direct the financial activities of the hospital and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
  • Monitor the financial performance and financial position of assigned entities to identify variances and key trends affecting financial viability.
  • Review key financial and utilization information with entity CEOs, senior teams, system finance leaders, and others to facilitate timely operating adjustments.
  • Establish and maintain centralized administrative and financial policies for assigned functional areas to standardize processes among system entities.
  • Coordinate efforts with entity CEOs, senior teams, other finance vice presidents, and leaders across the system to improve consistency, efficiency, margins, and communication.
  • Coordinate reporting of financial performance and financial position to Finance Committees and Boards of Directors.
  • Lead long-range strategic planning for assigned entities, including growth opportunities, pro formas for new or expanded ventures, process improvements, margin enhancements, and resource deployment.
  • Assist with annual updates of long-range financial forecasts to assess system-wide capital requirements, debt capacity, and cash planning.
  • Assist with annual external financial statement audits and corrective action plans addressing management letter recommendations and accounting control deficiencies.
  • Complete annual operating and capital budgets within established budget guidelines and parameters.
  • Establish relationships with banks and other financial institutions to maximize short-term cash returns and the effectiveness of cash management activities.
  • Monitor changes in the healthcare regulatory environment and develop strategies to manage their impact on the system and member hospitals.
  • Identify future needs and problem areas, develop workable solutions, and follow through to implementation.
  • Provide financial assistance to system staff, entity CEOs, and senior management teams of assigned entities.
  • Maintain a professional development program, attend meetings and seminars, and apply current field knowledge within assigned entities and the system.
  • Travel between facilities and buildings throughout the region.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • A master's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or healthcare administration is preferred.
  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • Experience with financial management in a critical access hospital and/or healthcare system environment is preferred.
