More than 500 attend annual Senior Expo for health information, community connections and fellowship.

More than 500 attend annual Senior Expo for health information, community connections and fellowship. * Staff Reports * Oct 15, 2026 Hundreds of seniors gathered Wednesday at First Baptist Church of Maryville for the 2026 Grand Times Senior Expo, taking advantage of free health screenings, information about Medicare and senior services, and an opportunity to socialize. The event, organized by The Daily Times for the eighth consecutive year, featured vendors offering products and services geared toward older adults. Many attendees have made the expo an annual tradition. "It's always interesting to see new products and maybe companies I use that I don't see all the time," said Boni Witt. John Keeble and his wife, Connie, have attended the expo for four years. Both had straightforward answers when asked what keeps them coming back. "Meeting friends," John said. "To get your (flu) shot and the information you get every year," Connie said. Brian Cox accompanied his mother, Barbara Cox, to the event and took advantage of free flu shots provided by Blount Discount Pharmacy. "I'm her bodyguard," Brian joked. "Everybody's friendly and it's easy to communicate with them," Barbara said. Vendors also expressed satisfaction with the turnout. Participants included banks, Medicare insurance agents, hospitals, clinics, pharmacies and other businesses providing products and services for seniors. Myra Hedrick, an Avon representative, participated as a vendor for the fifth year. "I like just seeing all the people and getting to talk," Hedrick said. "It's wonderful. It's great to meet all the community of Blount County, especially the seniors," said Jill Dell of Asbury Ridge Senior Living in Maryville. "They have a great place in my heart and Asbury's heart." Amber Stevens of Tennessee Oncology in Alcoa participated for the second year. "I think it's a great opportunity for us to connect and be with our community members," Stevens said. "A lot of times, we don't get outside our clinic so to be able to get out and see this population and community is a privilege for us and we enjoy fellowshiping with them." Darrell Hull, a new nurse practitioner with Tennessee Oncology, agreed. "It's a magnificent event," Hull said. "This is a huge turnout and for the community to come out to an event like this is great. It gives us an opportunity to meet the people in the community. I've already talked to people who have already been to our clinic and family members who have already been to our clinic. It's that putting the face with the name. It really solidifies us with the community." Darren Haimer, general manager of The Daily Times, credited vendors and community partners for the event's success. "I want to thank all of our vendors for participating in the Grand Times Senior Expo and for everything they do for our community," Haimer said. "We also appreciate Maryville's own Richy Kreme for providing complimentary donuts. More than 500 people attended, which was a phenomenal turnout, and the vendor support was just as strong. We've been proud to host this event, and we look forward to many more years to come."

Executing a major renovation around cancer care: how Tennessee Oncology is giving its downtown Chattanooga office a major facelift.

Executing a major renovation around cancer care: how Tennessee Oncology is giving its downtown Chattanooga office a major facelift. Tennessee Oncology, which treats nearly half the cancer patients in the Volunteer State, opened the newly-renovated lobby today and began construction on the second and third floors at its downtown Chattanooga clinic, located at 1032 McCallie Ave., as part of a two-year overhaul. Renovating an operational oncology clinic requires expertise so that patient care is not disrupted and the project build-out can be staged efficiently. Tennessee Oncology is partnering with Blevins Construction and Tinker Ma to double the overall size of the clinic, including: * Expanding patient check-in and check-out areas * Doubling the infusion room space * Tripling the exam and new patient consult rooms * Increasing the laboratory, pharmacy, and research pharmacy areas * Adding an administrative suite "Tennessee Oncology has deep roots in the Chattanooga community, and we're excited to unveil our newly renovated lobby and welcome patients and their families into a space designed to enhance the patient experience," said Natalie Dickson, MD, CEO and President of Tennessee Oncology. "As our practice has grown throughout the state, we've learned valuable lessons in how to expand without interrupting patient care. I'm proud of how our care teams ensured their patients' needs were met throughout the first phase of construction and look forward to the project's completion." At the downtown Chattanooga clinic, six physicians and six advanced practice providers care for patients. Throughout the renovation, Tennessee Oncology's clinical and operational teams will work closely to ensure uninterrupted access to care while construction progresses in phases around active patient treatment areas. The renovation reflects Tennessee Oncology's long-term commitment to the Chattanooga community and will provide patients, caregivers, and staff with a significantly expanded and modernized facility designed to support continued growth, enhance the patient experience, and increase access to high-quality cancer care for years to come.
