Requirements
  • Education in developmental disabilities or human services, such as DSW, SSW, CYW, ECE, FSW, or PSW.
  • Knowledge and experience using behaviour management techniques, positive reinforcement strategies, and crisis intervention methods.
  • A valid driver's licence.
  • A clear criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • A Certified Driver's Abstract from ServiceOntario that is no more than one month old on or before the hire date.
Responsibilities
  • Provide support to individuals with severe behaviours in residential settings.
  • Follow and assist with individualized care plans based on each individual's needs and goals.
  • Use evidence-based practices and behaviour management strategies to address challenging behaviours.
  • Collaborate with psychologists, therapists, and social workers to develop comprehensive intervention plans.
  • Document individual progress, behaviours, and incidents according to established protocols.
  • Use positive reinforcement techniques and assist individuals in acquiring new skills to promote independence and personal growth.
  • Provide crisis intervention and use de-escalation techniques to manage challenging situations safely.
  • Assist individuals with daily living activities, including personal hygiene, meal preparation, medication administration, and household tasks.
  • Promote a supportive and inclusive environment that supports socialization and community integration.
  • Advocate for the rights and needs of individuals with developmental disabilities and severe behaviours.
  • Work pre-scheduled shifts and respond to weekend, night, day, afternoon, and evening call-ins as required.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous experience in support settings with persons who have autism, developmental disabilities, dual diagnoses, physical or sensory challenges, or who are medically fragile or technically dependent.
  • A current standard first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation certificate.
