SQL Database Administrator
About the job
- Good knowledge of Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows 2003 servers, including standard, enterprise, and datacenter versions.
- Experience with SQL Server 2000, 2005, and 2008 is a plus.
- Experience with SQL programming, scripting, and support.
- Expertise setting up and troubleshooting SQL Server high-availability features, including clustering, replication, mirroring, and log shipping, for 24/7 production environments.
- Experience designing SQL database servers and performing capacity planning for new projects.
- Ability to evaluate and suggest third-party database tools based on business needs.
- Knowledge of Microsoft and VERITAS clustering solutions.
- Experience with database bug-fixing, troubleshooting, and performance optimization.
- Experience with database migrations, upgrades, and patching is required.
- Knowledge or experience with FOGLIGHT, LightSpeed, and TSM.
- Knowledge or experience with disaster recovery.
- Ability to perform SOX audits and related SOX audit knowledge or experience.
- Knowledge of incident, request, and change management processes.
- Five to six years of core SQL database administration experience.
- Experience with database clustering is required.
- Experience with high availability, including log shipping, replication, mirroring, and clustering, is required.
- Experience handling production systems.
- Experience tuning the performance of production databases.
- Ability to handle a team and understand customer service-level agreements and key performance indicators.
- Set up and maintain production database environments.
- Provide expert advice to application database administrators and development teams.
- Install and configure database clustering, replication, log shipping, and mirroring.
- Proactively suggest optimizations for the current environment and monitoring processes.
- Handle database incidents, requests, and changes in accordance with established processes.
- Support production database environments and troubleshoot database issues.
- Handle the team while understanding customer service-level agreements and key performance indicators.
- Exposure to audit tools is an added advantage.
- Good communication and customer-handling ability.
- Quality and process orientation.
