Responsibilities
  • Conduct substance use evaluations through direct interviews of people presenting to CPEP, assess chemical use history and related factors, document findings in the CPEP record, and provide oral reports to the interdisciplinary team as indicated while complying with confidentiality rules and patient-rights laws.
  • Serve as a substance use subject matter expert and consultant to the interdisciplinary CPEP team, educating and guiding coworkers in assessment and discharge planning, and provide direct discharge-planning services such as completing the LOCADTOR when needed.
  • Assist or direct discharge planning for CPEP patients dealing with substance use issues, using clinical judgment and knowledge of CPEP discharge regulations to support safe discharge planning.
  • Maintain knowledge of and positive relationships with local and regional services and agencies that serve people dealing with substance use issues.
  • As needed, safety-plan with patients and families, make referrals for outpatient follow-up, or secure outpatient follow-up when available and indicated.
  • Treat patients, families, trainees, and coworkers with sensitivity to cultural differences, and participate in cultural competency events and training appropriate to the role.
  • Attend monthly CPEP staff meetings and periodically contribute content materials; maintain discipline-related knowledge and skills through continuing education and in-service meetings; and report regularly to the clinical supervisor for supervision of clinical activities.
  • As needed, act as a liaison with physicians, staff, and others in community health, social, and government agencies.
  • Support inpatient service CASACs as indicated by the supervisor and perform other assigned duties.
  • Assist with onsite training and onboarding support for new CPEP or inpatient acute services staff, offer in-service training for CPEP and other acute services staff, and offer learning experiences for psychiatric residents, medical students, and other interns rotating through CPEP.
Desired Qualifications
  • Prior experience working in substance use treatment is preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a crisis or psychiatric care setting is preferred.
  • CASAC certification upon hire is strongly preferred.
