Requirements
  • Demonstrate standard knowledge of normal versus abnormal anatomy.
  • Recognize and diagnose disease processes pertinent to the examinations performed.
  • Recognize critical findings and situations and address them competently using critical-thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Have thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pathology related to abdominal, obstetric and gynecologic, vascular, breast, and neurosonography.
  • Adapt scanning techniques to perform examinations at all levels of difficulty.
  • Work independently and efficiently with confidence in diagnoses and images obtained.
  • Physically assist patients on and off the examination table.
  • Perform examinations in the ultrasound department, in surgery or the catheterization laboratory, and at the patient's bedside.
  • Maintain integrity, compassion, confidentiality, discretion, and professionalism.
  • Demonstrate self-motivation and teamwork.
  • Hold an Associate degree in Allied Health, or have qualifying direct experience in lieu of education if certified.
  • Meet one of the accepted sonography credential pathways: American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography credentials RDMS in abdomen, obstetrics and gynecology, or physics, and/or RVT in vascular technology; American Registry of Radiologic Technologists credentials RT(S) or RT(VS); or continuous ultrasound practice since before and including October 1996 with physician evaluation of competence.
  • Hold Basic Life Support certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Complete Trophon competency requirements.
Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with biopsies and other invasive procedures by using ultrasound guidance for needle placement and maintaining sterile technique when appropriate.
  • Organize the daily schedule to maintain efficient patient throughput, performing studies chronologically and prioritizing stat examinations.
  • Perform complex specialized ultrasound examinations in abdominal, obstetric and gynecologic, breast, vascular, and neurosonography specialties according to department protocol.
  • Use high-frequency sound waves to differentiate normal from abnormal anatomy while maintaining examination quality.
  • Prepare a sonographer impression form for each study with detailed patient history and diagnoses relevant to the examination.
  • Obtain stat preliminary results on abnormal examinations according to department protocol.
  • Review and correlate examination orders with the patient's current history and prior examination history to ensure the appropriate examination is performed.
  • Verify accurate transfer of images and examination information through the Picture Archiving and Communication System and Radiology Information System for radiologist interpretation, and ensure correct charging.
  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
  • Conduct duties in accordance with the organization's Model of Care and Conduct and applicable standards of behavior.

Methodist Hospitals foundation appoints new executive director. Methodist Hospitals is pleased to announce the appointment of James R. (Jamie) Mack as Vice President, Chief Financial Officer. Mack brings nearly three decades of leadership in healthcare finance as well as a deep understanding of Methodist Hospitals and the community it serves. Mack joins Methodist from St. Anthony Hospital in Chicago, where he had served as Vice President of Finance since 2016. His extensive financial experience includes senior leadership positions at Sinai Health Systems in Chicago, Pinnacle Hospital in Crown Point and other health care organizations in Illinois and Northwest Indiana. He is an expert in accounting, reimbursement, charge structure, pricing models and pricing strategies in both for-profit and non-profit organizations as well as strategic and reputation development. He is a returning member of Methodist family, having served as Methodist Controller from 1987 to 2006. A native of Northwest Indiana, Jamie also has a deep understanding of The Region and of the communities that Methodist Hospitals serves.
