TwelveLabs brings video understanding to physical AI with latest launch.

TwelveLabs brings video understanding to physical AI with latest launch. Oct. 6, 2026, 09:30 AM SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 06, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - TwelveLabs, a leading video intelligence company, today announced the release of Pegasus 1.6, which adds new capabilities for understanding and navigating complex real-world environments. This latest model enables TwelveLabs expansion into physical AI, the domain of artificial intelligence that can perceive, reason about, and act in the physical world through machines like robots, drones, autonomous vehicles, and industrial equipment. Now TwelveLabs can solve key workflow-specific challenges and unlock the full potential for physical AI. As the physical world rapidly digitalizes, physical AI teams are gathering vast amounts of complex video, but transforming raw footage into actionable model intelligence remains a critical challenge. TwelveLabs bridges this gap, automatically generating rich insights from real-world perspectives and enabling machines to see, understand, and safely interact with their environments like never before. "Our mission has always been to help machines understand how the world works through video," said Jae Lee, CEO and co-founder of TwelveLabs. "Physical AI is the next expression of that mission. Most of what people know about doing physical work, such as a changing grip, or a recovery after something slips, has never been captured in a form a machine can learn from. With our newest model release, we can now turn that footage into structured, reviewable knowledge, so robotics and physical AI teams can train on real human experience instead of starting from scratch." Notably, TwelveLabs' new Pegasus 1.6 model is the first TwelveLabs model built to understand egocentric video. Egocentric video is shot from the point of view of the person doing the work, whether that's someone cooking a meal, assembling parts on a factory line, or operating a robot remotely. Pegasus 1.6 currently supports five core workflows powered by this video-native model. They are: * Action segmentation and labeling: Accelerates model training with standardized datasets by automatically generating precise, timestamped action labels for tasks, steps, objects, and hand-object interactions from raw video, perfectly mapped to your domain-specific taxonomy. * Dense caption labeling: Enables natural language understanding for robots by producing rich, descriptive language for spatial relationships, scene context, and hand-object interactions to train advanced language-conditioned robot policies. * Quality scoring: Save time by filtering out low-quality video by automatically evaluating and scoring video clips for action clarity, framing, and stability before sending footage to human reviewers. * Search and curation: Uncover critical edge cases by effortlessly surfacing rare events, long-tail scenarios, and duplicate clips across your entire video repository using simple natural language search queries. * Consent and compliance flagging: Protect privacy and maintain compliance effortlessly by detecting and flagging faces, bystanders, and sensitive onscreen or paper data before video footage enters downstream development pipelines. Pegasus 1.6 builds on the industry-leading video understanding capabilities TwelveLabs developed for enterprises that maintain massive video libraries. The new release extends Pegasus 1.5's foundational functionality that attracted several new customers, particularly from Time-Based Metadata (TBM), which allows users to define a custom schema and automatically receive timestamped, structured metadata from video content. This is particularly useful in aiding contextual understanding, as people often narrate what they are doing in egocentric clips. Pegasus 1.6 also improved entity recognition for more consistent tracking of hands, objects, and tools across clips. The model also offers faster, more cost-efficient processing for high-volume video workloads. Tottenham Hotspur and San Antonio Spurs team up with ScorePlay and TwelveLabs to host the Spurs Hackathon in Austin.

Tottenham Hotspur and San Antonio Spurs team up with ScorePlay and TwelveLabs to host the Spurs Hackathon in Austin. 06/10/2026 Hotspur Labs, Tottenham Hotspur's corporate venture programme, will co-host the Spurs Hackathon with the San Antonio Spurs, ScorePlay, and TwelveLabs on October 22-23 at the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business. The event runs alongside the McCombs Business of Sports Summit on October 23. Participants will build on ScorePlay's platform and open API and TwelveLabs' video intelligence to address content challenges set by the two clubs. Challenge areas are: an Assisted Auto-Production Engine that uses live data, social media signals, and video AI to identify and create content from game assets with producer approval; and a Rights and Compliance tool that checks assets against league and regional rules, writes verdicts and reasoning to the asset, and shows what can be used, where, and for how long. A student team from UT McCombs will compete alongside visiting teams. Winners are selected by a panel of executives from both clubs, TwelveLabs, and ScorePlay. Sports organizations are producing more content than ever, but creating it is no longer the hardest part. The harder problem is knowing which moments matter, who they matter to, where they can be used, and getting them to fans while those moments still have value, says Charlie Kurian, Director of Strategy and Innovation, San Antonio Spurs. Spurs gives us an opportunity to explore how AI can help us make more of the content we already create, working alongside Tottenham Hotspur on a challenge that increasingly matters across global sports. Hotspur Labs was built to bring Tottenham Hotspur the best ideas and companies to solve real problems, not theoretical ones. Content and rights management are exactly that for us, says Rob Pickering, Chief Technology Officer, Tottenham Hotspur. Taking Hotspur Labs to Austin shows the kind of partnerships and opportunities we want this program to create. Sports organizations have never captured more content, or had less time to use it, says Victorien Tixier, Co-Founder and CEO, ScorePlay. Spurs puts real problems from two world-class organizations in front of people who can build the answers in two days. Rights and production look like two distinct problems, but they're really two sides of the same coin: knowing what's in your content and what you're allowed to do with it, says Jesse White, Global Sports Lead, TwelveLabs. We built Spurs around both because that's what teams actually deal with, and we wanted to see what builders in Austin do when video intelligence is put directly in their hands. 05/01/2027. IBC 2026: TwelveLabs launches video compliance platform with NVIDIA deepfake detection.

IBC 2026: TwelveLabs launches video compliance platform with NVIDIA deepfake detection. 04/09/2026 TwelveLabs has launched a video compliance platform for media organizations, incorporating NVIDIA deepfake detection capabilities alongside TwelveLabs' existing video understanding AI. The platform will be demonstrated at IBC2026. The platform combines automated content analysis across multiple compliance categories - including deepfake detection, violence, explicit content, misinformation indicators, and advertising standards - in a single workflow. NVIDIA's deepfake detection runs on TwelveLabs' video intelligence infrastructure, analyzing video frame by frame for synthetic media indicators without requiring separate processing pipelines. TwelveLabs says the system is designed for broadcast compliance teams, content moderation operations, and advertising verification workflows where manual review at scale is impractical. The volume of video content requiring compliance review has grown faster than human review capacity can scale, says Jae Lee, CEO, TwelveLabs. Our platform lets compliance teams set the parameters for what they need to catch, and the AI handles the review at scale - surfacing the content that needs human attention rather than requiring a person to watch everything. Adding NVIDIA's deepfake detection means we can now offer that same efficiency for synthetic media detection, which is becoming a compliance requirement for broadcasters and platforms. Deepfake detection is moving from a research problem to an operational requirement for media organizations, says Gerardo Donahoe, Director of Media and Entertainment, NVIDIA. Working with TwelveLabs integrates that capability directly into the video intelligence workflows broadcasters and platforms already use for content analysis, making compliance more practical at scale. 05/01/2027. Twelve Labs raises $100M from Amazon and VCs with Nvidia backing for video AI search

Twelve Labs, an AI startup developing multimodal video understanding technology, has raised $100 million from Amazon and venture capital investors. The company builds AI models that can extract contextual insights from video data, enabling users to search and analyse footage using natural language rather than keywords. The startup's models are integrated into Amazon Bedrock, AWS's managed service for generative AI applications, and use Oracle Cloud Infrastructure for training. Nvidia led Twelve Labs' $50 million Series A in June 2024, with NEA and Radical Ventures participating. A December 2024 round brought in $30 million from Databricks, Snowflake, SK Telecom and HubSpot Ventures. The company has raised approximately $107 million in total funding and is positioned at the intersection of AI infrastructure and cloud computing.
