Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of construction safety management experience with a construction general contractor is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • A valid state-issued driver's license, satisfactory driving record, and vehicle insurance meeting the company's liability coverage requirements are required.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification is required.
  • First Aid, CPR, and AED certification are required.
  • EHS training or certifications in areas such as fall protection, scaffolding, excavation and trenching, and HAZCOM are required.
  • The role requires the ability to remain current on federal, state, and local construction-related safety regulations and laws.
Responsibilities
  • Support and promote the company's safety culture internally and externally.
  • Implement site safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, and ensure organizational compliance.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to the Safety Program, Site Specific Safety and Health Plans, Job Hazard Analyses, and related policies and procedures.
  • Identify training needs and develop and implement safety awareness initiatives that improve safety performance and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and conduct jobsite safety orientations for new workers.
  • Monitor, manage, and conduct EHS training in accordance with the EHS training matrix and established guidelines and priorities.
  • Design and implement metrics to monitor the progress and effectiveness of safety initiatives, programs, policies, procedures, and processes.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to Superintendents, Project Managers, and other personnel regarding safety policies and subcontractor compliance.
  • Create and maintain first aid supplies, emergency response plans, and crisis management plans.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, review safety compliance at work locations and jobsites, develop corrective action steps, prepare and distribute detailed findings reports, and follow up on implementation.
  • Ensure project field safety documentation is properly processed and maintained.
  • Attend and participate in Safe Start and preconstruction meetings with subcontractors.
  • Review company and subcontractor Site Specific Safety and Health Plans and ensure copies are available on site.
  • Maintain and review Safety Data Sheets submitted by subcontractors.
  • Coordinate and jointly conduct weekly all-hands safety meetings with Project Supervision and maintain subcontractor participation records.
  • Ensure Job Hazard Analyses are completed, reviewed, and signed by subcontractor workers, and file submitted analyses.
  • Manage OSHA site visits and inspections and ensure appropriate reporting to government agencies.
  • Investigate incidents ranging from near misses to fatalities using root cause analysis and report findings to senior and corporate safety leadership.
Desired Qualifications
  • OSHA 500 certification is preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional, Construction Health and Safety Technician, or another safety certification is preferred.
