About the job

Requirements
  • At least 5 years of progressive HR/People experience spanning HR operations (benefits, payroll coordination, and HRIS administration) and employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build People processes and practices in ambiguous, fast-moving, or startup-like environments without an existing playbook.
  • Track record of earning trust and influence with managers and leaders through sound judgment and genuine curiosity, rather than positional authority or policy enforcement.
  • A meticulous, detail-oriented approach to operational work, particularly data that impacts pay and benefits.
  • Hands-on experience with an HRIS platform such as Rippling or equivalent, and the ability to learn and own new systems quickly.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or person admitted into the United States as an asylee or refugee.
Responsibilities
  • Own the accurate, timely execution of operational People functions, including benefits administration, payroll coordination, HRIS workflows, garnishments, and onboarding, end to end.
  • Serve as the go-to resource for employees and managers on People matters, independently resolving the substantial majority of employee relations issues and escalating judiciously when needed.
  • Build trusted advisory relationships with people managers across Engineering, Manufacturing, Consumer Operations, and Core Operations so leaders proactively consult before making significant people decisions.
  • Partner with the Head of People to take people programs and initiatives from vision to adoption by building project plans, driving organization-wide adoption, and owning logistics and follow-through with minimal oversight.
  • Maintain rigorous accuracy in HRIS data, especially data affecting payroll or benefits, and build processes that catch errors before they happen.
  • Collaborate with Recruiting, IT, and Finance where People work intersects with theirs.

About the company

Biofire makes biometric handguns for home defense, built around the Guardian Biometric Engine that uses 3D infrared facial recognition and capacitive fingerprint sensing to authorize use. The gun unlocks when an authorized person picks it up and locks when it leaves their hand, and either biometric can unlock even with gloves or coverings; all biometric data stays on the firearm with no cloud storage. It is sold direct-to-consumer as a closed system with a portable Smart Dock that manages charging and user profiles. Biofire’s goal is to reduce preventable firearm injuries and deaths, especially among children, by ensuring firearms work only for their owner and by scaling production to broaden safe access.

What believers are saying

  • Maryland’s June 2026 report confirms Biofire is the lone rostered personalized handgun.
  • September 3, 2026 California roster additions expand reachable buyers for Dark Terra and Orbital White.
  • Smartgun.com still sells nationwide, preserving a direct-to-consumer channel and recurring preorder pipeline.

What critics are saying

  • Biofire discloses no sales volumes, and Maryland says personalized handgun distribution remains limited.
  • California access depends on Boland v. Bonta; the Ninth Circuit en banc appeal remains pending.
  • Any biometric failure causing injury, death, or a headline recall would destroy trust instantly.

What makes Biofire unique

  • Biofire’s Guardian Biometric Engine combines face and fingerprint authorization on-device, without cloud connectivity.
  • It is the only personalized handgun on Maryland’s roster, per June 2026 state reporting.
  • California added Biofire Smart Gun models on September 3, 2026, sustaining product legitimacy.
