Requirements
  • A minimum of two years of experience working in recreation or active living and one year of leadership experience working with mature adults and seniors in a related setting.
  • Minimum two-year post-secondary education in recreation or active living, leisure studies, gerontology, social services, kinesiology, health promotion, health sciences, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of program adaptations and modifications to benefit individuals with cognitive, physical, and sensory impairments.
  • A current F Class or Class 4 license, or the ability to obtain one.
  • Current certification in CPR and first aid.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • A complete and current Vulnerable Sector Check, including a Criminal Background Check, or willingness to obtain one.
  • A genuine passion for promoting a healthy and active lifestyle for residents, along with the ability to inspire and motivate.
  • Idea generation, innovation, and creative problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with residents, families, and the team and build partnerships with external organizations.
  • Strong initiative and self-direction.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities
  • Assess residents' needs and develop and implement a wide range of engaging and meaningful programs.
  • Build monthly calendars and newsletters.
  • Schedule events and live entertainment.
  • Evaluate and improve overall program choices and offerings.
  • Create an environment that promotes wellness, social interaction, and overall happiness.
  • Ensure that team members exemplify and align with the organization's values.
  • Grow and evaluate an active volunteer program by leveraging volunteers to meet the unique needs of the residence.
  • Motivate and lead the team while delivering superior customer service.
Desired Qualifications
  • Certifications or training in gerontology, senior fitness, Dementia or Alzheimer's, wellness interventions, SmartServe, food handling, and volunteer management.
