Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the practice of law in the State of Texas.
  • Five years of experience in the practice of law, litigation, jury trials, or closely related experience.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with the defense bar.
  • Ability to evaluate criminal cases and determine appropriate outcomes.
  • Ability to prepare cases for contested matters, including jury trials.
  • Ability to present evidence and advocate to a jury or trier of fact.
Responsibilities
  • Represent the State of Texas and the citizens of Galveston County in criminal proceedings in the District and County Courts.
  • Supervise, train, and evaluate subordinate prosecutors.
  • Interact and consult with law enforcement officers at various stages from a suspect’s arrest through case disposition.
  • Interview and assist crime victims and witnesses through all stages of a case.
  • Communicate and negotiate with the defense bar.
  • Evaluate cases to determine appropriate outcomes, including plea agreements, diversion, dismissal, or trial.
  • Maintain the felony docket of criminal cases involving vehicular crimes, including intoxication manslaughter and assault, failure to stop and render aid, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
  • Prepare cases for contested matters, including jury trials.
  • Present evidence and advocate to a jury or trier of fact.
  • Participate in in-house and formal training and receive mentoring from supervisors and experienced attorneys.
