Responsibilities
  • Perform basic construction and maintenance work on substations, transmission systems, collection systems, and battery storage systems.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance and resolve issues with protection and control equipment and relay schemes.
  • Report and coordinate emergency response and repairs to high-voltage equipment and battery energy storage systems.
  • Establish and maintain high-voltage inventory, equipment, tools, and vehicles.
  • Support balance-of-plant operations and construction, including substation and battery energy storage equipment.
  • Complete lockout/tagout training and demonstrate proficiency.
  • Operate the facility safely and in an environmentally friendly manner.
  • Support emergency response during after-hours call-outs.
  • Interface and coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and landowners.
  • Read and understand high-voltage electrical schematics.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations and market requirements.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Snoqualmie residents clash with developers over proposed lithium battery site near homes. A neighborhood meeting erupted into chaos over a proposed lithium-ion battery facility, with Snoqualmie neighbors voicing concerns and calling for better engagement. SNOQUALMIE, Wash. - A contentious neighborhood meeting in Snoqualmie erupted into shouting and jeering Tuesday night as residents pushed back against a corporation's proposal to build a lithium-ion battery storage facility near their homes. The meeting, hosted by Jupiter Power, ended abruptly after tensions escalated between community members and the project's lead developer, Hans Detweiler, who is seeking to build the facility on a 45-acre site behind Fisher Creek Park in Snoqualmie Ridge, near homes and within a mile of an elementary school. Residents said they felt their concerns were not being taken seriously during the meeting. "We need to be listened to and have a structure, to have our questions heard and answered respectfully, not in a sales pitch," one man said, as the crowd cheered. "Just show some empathy and listen first!" As tensions rose, Detweiler stood on a chair in an apparent attempt to regain control of the room, but that move further angered attendees. Neighbor Holly Cowan pushed back, saying, "These may be the safest, best batteries ever on the earth. The question we have is, in what way are the benefits to this community so exorbitant and amazing that they outweigh the level of risk?" She voiced sharp criticism of the proposal and the handling of the meeting. "Batteries in the middle of a suburban development is preposterous. It's absurd," Cowan said. During the heated exchange, the man who lives nearby shouted, "Don't just stand on a chair like you're a bigger man, actually listen to the questions!" The meeting ultimately unraveled as the crowd called for it to end. "Step down... Step down!" Detweiler responded, "Thank you for coming, and this meeting is over." People booed him on his way out of the room. Despite the heated reaction, residents clarified their concerns in interviews with KING 5. "I don't think anybody is opposed to clean energy. They just don't want it in your backyard," said neighbor Armand Campo. He's one of more than 14,000 people estimated to live in the Snoqualmie Ridge area, where the company's proposing the facility. Among the top concerns raised were the risk of lithium battery fires, noise, pollution, and potential impacts on property values. Residents pointed to recent fires, like the 2024 fire at a San Diego Gas & Electric-operated battery storage facility in Escondido, Calif., as an example. Detweiler acknowledged those concerns, saying, "We want to be able to speak to those concerns and talk about how our project is designed from the ground up to be a safe project." He added that safety improvements have been made, noting "fire code updates and improvements," and, "if there would be a fire, it would be contained just to one of those containers." Detweiler said Jupiter Power's proposal is intended to support a reliable electric grid and provide affordable electricity. A construction workers' union leader also voiced support for Jupiter Power's plans, saying, "We need to all embrace technology and share a little bit of the responsibility." The company is now revising its proposal and plans to resubmit it to the King County Council, as opposition from Snoqualmie residents continues.
