Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited two-year program in radiologic technology is required.
  • ARRT registration and a New York State Department of Health radiology license are required.
  • Certification to inject and start intravenous lines for contrast injections is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association is required.
Responsibilities
  • Operate computerized tomography scanners and peripheral equipment to obtain images for physician diagnosis and treatment of pathologies.
  • Prepare the scan room, supplies, and medications, and enter written documentation required by the department.
  • Obtain patient history, including clinical documentation, before procedures and document relevant information in patient records and department files.
  • Explain procedures to patients and assist them throughout procedures.
  • Prepare contrast media for administration.
  • Practice sterile techniques as required and observe infection control procedures.
  • Correctly identify patients.
  • Assist physicians in examinations.
  • Operate ionizing-radiation-producing CT equipment competently, minimizing radiation exposure to patients, staff, and self while maximizing image quality.
  • Maintain orderliness and cleanliness.
Desired Qualifications
  • Advanced CT certification is preferred.
  • Knowledge and working experience in computerized axial tomography are preferred.
  • Maintaining the recommended CME by the ARRT is stated as a requirement.
