About the job

Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on electronic circuit and PCB design experience.
  • Proficiency with a schematic and PCB design tool such as Altium, Cadence, or KiCad.
  • Solid grounding in analog and digital fundamentals, power electronics, and high-speed design concepts.
  • Ability to debug hardware at the bench using standard lab instrumentation such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
Responsibilities
  • Own the design of electronic hardware from concept through prototype and into production.
  • Own development of products, including requirements, schematic capture, PCB layout, fabrication, testing, and quality assurance.
  • Drive schematic capture and lead PCB layout, including component selection, footprints, and bill of materials management.
  • Develop and perform circuit simulation and analysis, such as SPICE, covering power, signal integrity, timing, and thermal considerations.
  • Design power supplies, sensor interfaces, communication interfaces including I²C, SPI, UART, USB, and Ethernet, and microcontroller/processor subsystems.
  • Bring up and debug prototypes in the lab using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and other bench equipment.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, verification, and test engineers throughout the development cycle.
  • Prepare design documentation and review packages, and support Design for Manufacturability and cost-reduction efforts.

About the company

Root Access provides AI-native tools for embedded systems engineers to streamline firmware development. Its main product, the Hideout IDE, is a universal IDE that lets engineers configure peripherals, generate code, and compile firmware across multiple toolchains, with an AI agent named Seb to help generate and validate code. It differentiates itself by using hardware datasheets and schematics (via Altium) to produce customized, validated firmware rather than generic templates, and targets robotics, defense, and industrial automation. Its goal is to shorten the firmware development cycle and deliver reliable embedded software for mission-critical hardware, with clients including Mitsubishi Electric and East West Manufacturing and a $2.1 million pre-seed round in 2025.

What believers are saying

  • Docs updated September 4, 2026 show active development across Hideout and Seb.
  • Root Access added hardware-in-the-loop testing, raising trust for regulated engineering teams.
  • September 2025 pre-seed from AlleyCorp funds expansion into aerospace, defense, and heavy machinery.

What critics are saying

  • PlatformIO, Keil, IAR, and vendor IDEs already own embedded workflows today.
  • Root Access still lacks public revenue; a 2027 raise failure ends the company.
  • Defense and industrial buyers demand long pilots; Mitsubishi adoption alone does not prove scale.

What makes Root Access unique

  • Hideout ingests datasheets and schematics, unlike generic AI copilots for software.
  • Seb targets embedded firmware workflows with hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation.
  • Altium and Octopart integration gives Root Access board-level context competitors lack.
